Make sure he’s not wearing a radio collar…
Ya because two hundred of his buddies are tracking him to see if its safe to move in !!
We use to have to worry about that with the mountain lions around here but we soon learned to run the collar through the hammermill with the rest of the critter.September 30, 2021 at 9:41 pm #2064473This free-loader tore up part of my barn. Unlike yours, it concealed all its holes beneath lumber I have stacked up. Went to get some 2x10s and found a dirt pile nearly 4 feet tall.
Fortunately it’s morning pee routine was very predictable. I emptied its bladder for it

October 1, 2021 at 8:05 am #2064499Nice shot Randy! Blew his guts right out.
I know!
Were you using an anti-tank round?
October 1, 2021 at 10:05 am #2064531Little Sparky – 22-250 /55gr nosler varmegedon. At 4000 FPS, I’m pretty sure I sent its bladder to the next county. Was a bit disappointed in flight time. Only went about 3 feet up and about 5 feet back. Just not the same as a prairie dog

Story from the local bar a couple years ago during deer season, likely apocryphal rather than true but I enjoyed it.
A local hunter shot a collared wolf in our area. Cut off the collar, tossed it onto the back of a passing pulp wood truck. DNR went to the Cloquet Mill in pursuit of the collar, found it laying in the yard.

That story has been told at my deer camp for over a decade lol. I am positive that its not true based on the individuals who tell it.

I heard it in a bar from a “hunter” who was well on his way to being carried out. As I said, likely appocryphal.
WatersmackPosts: 12October 1, 2021 at 12:59 pm #2064579That was my cousin’s nephew’s uncle who tossed that wolf collar. This was years ago, before the laws changed. Besides, statue of limitations nowadays.

I got the green light form the DNR to take out a woodchuck that made my front yard her new home as long as I don’t use artificial lights, motorized vehicles or poison.I’m loading up the Evil Roy!
Looks like woodchuck cheeks for dinner tonight.
Do I need to dust of the Kalashnikov?
This situation has some entertainment potential, I’ll give it that.
When you mix woodchucks, big boulders, Kalashnikovs with high capacity magazines, and the DNR’s insistence that the only ground rules are that it all has to happen during daylight hours and motor vehicles can NOT be part of the solution, well…

April 27, 2022 at 4:14 pm #2119778I shot 7 woodchucks and 7 raccoons in my yard last summer, and 1 raccoon this year, all with .22 short low velocity 710 fps bullets and all were toast instantly. No need for bigger rounds. I live in town so I’m pretty careful.
