I got the green light form the DNR to take out a woodchuck that made my front yard her new home as long as I don’t use artificial lights, motorized vehicle or poison.

I’m loading up the Evil Roy!

Looks like woodchuck cheeks for dinner tonight. toast

What do you mean by green light from DNR? You asked them for permission to kill vermin in your yard? Is that because of the visibility to neighbors?
    Firearm or trap scenario?

    getting closer

    Suzuki,
To be able to use a firearm. I didn’t want to go the trapping route.
It’s at the cabin and was cute for a while, then I came up this weekend and she has exit holes all over the place.

Don’t make the mistake of not having enough gun. They’re tougher than they look! I used to aim for a precise shot with the .22, not enough gun. I don’t mess around anymore. Goose loads from the 12 gauge gets the job done. Im up to 5 this summer so far in my yard. They seem to really prefer digging under my little shed.
Fill the hole in too, otherwise it becomes the perfect place for Pepe Le Pew to move into for the winter.

I had to take out a whole family once at my inlaws many years ago. Not pleasant. Hopefully you just have the one adult. And I concur. Make your shot count. A .22 will do it with an ideal shot BUT a .22 magnum or bigger would be better.
Got an AR? That would be a good one. Just dont hit that rock!

Won’t be any cheeks left for a woodchuck BBQ later if you blast it with goose loads!

.223 will do the job. Make very sure of your shot before pulling the trigger, you don’t want it wounded and back down the hole. It will likely die but getting it our for disposal will be a major PITA.

Lets say it was mortally wounded and made it down the hole. Fill in hole and declare a success?

Those things are pretty smart. Any movement and the one I had in my yard was gone back under my shed. I tried to shoot it from my second story bedroom, and it still took off with any movement even with me up there. Had to go with a trap. They are really tough to kill too. I had to shoot it in the side of it’s body to kill it. I first tried in the head and that was a no go.

Have any other critters needing to meet their end? Live trap em and do a Saw movie wildlife sequel of sorts.

*insert photoshop pic of saw victims on ring with squirrel, woodchuck, deer, mole and Carl

Depends on how extensive the den is. Big dens have multiple exits, may be tough to fill everything in. That’s a big enough animal to smell bad if it is venting above ground.

    Northern MN, woodchuck central.

The tipping point for me would be when he starts putting monster energy, fox racing, and mossy oak decals on the rock…

Explosives are fun, the woodchuck may be a little close to the building for anything with power. We got a permit to blow a beaver dam on our property, used two sticks of dynamite. Three of us took turns digging for an entire morning to get the hole 3-4 feet down. Those buggers know how to build! Explosions was anti-climactic, dam kind of shuddered and then a three foot wide section washed away. Had nuisance permits to shoot beavers as well, knocked of several. Carl would not have been proud of us.

He must know I’m bird doggin him.
Might have to be an early morning shot.
He’ll only be 20′ to 25′ away so I’m planning a shot between her eyes with the Evil Roy. Wish I had a scope on it though.

OH COME ON!! its meant to be funny !!

personally I like the tannerite idea or anything that goes BOOM!! I might know a guy who can set you up with the,,,,,,,,, ahem, necessary materials.
