Well today I needed to leave my boat at the dock to get my car and trailer. A long walk crowded lake very nuts. Took at least 15 minutes to get the car wait in line etc. Load up the boat get inspected by the AIS inspector he asked if my buddy had a good time I said ah I had no buddy with me I was alone. He turned white said he had only been on duty a half hour guess what my new buddy walked away with yes count them all 10 of my rod and reel combos!!! At least $1500 I don’t even have a rod to fish with called the cops file a report I have some insurance 500 deductible and only up to $1000 limit. I am absolutely speechless and what A nice day to have it happen on. So if I buy 1 baitcaster would it work for everything? I need an all purpose rod for bass right now I think I can get by without a spinning reel for a while. I’ll buy a cheapie for the wife just to get by till Monday. All those years of getting good ones too. I guess I had to many in my small boat did I mention he got all my spinner baits too.

I can’t imagine. Rod combos are more than just rod combos. Taken me years to accumulate mine as well. That insurance is a tough one too.

PM your address and I’ll send a gift card your way to fund a new combo.

That takes some balls to do on what sounded like a crowded landing. Sorry to hear, and please post as much info as you can so we can be on the lookout for you as well.

Green Lake, The spinning combos nothing to special but the baitcasters are Lews rods and a Defy 13 rod, They had Daiwa tatulas on all of them except a Citica on the 13 if you see something let me know on sale sites, Im guessing they will just use them but boy it makes me mad. I sure appreciate the offers and help this forum is great.

    Green lake chisago area?

Would just be nice to know where you need to be extra careful. I’m always leery about leaving anything in the boat and leaving it unsupervised.

That’s absolutely crazy! Did anyone in line (or the inspector) get a description of the person or their vehicle? I would have hunted that monkeybutt down.

Good luck on getting them back. Hopefully someone saw something.

Being a single lone fisherman as well, I do hate to even leave a few things unattended even for a few minutes. Even as a shore fisherman, I try to make it all a one trip carry all even from the car to the shore fishing spot.

It’s happened to me. I hope you get over that deep gut punch feeling. Karma will find this guy. You might print a flier and pass it around some of the local taverns. More than likely he will be trying to dump them fast for a few bucks. Good luck.

Stories like this leave me speechless. I leave my boat in a slip with everything open and visible from time to time during the summer. Guess I should start taking some pictures and writing stuff down.

I couldnt imagine this was chisago. There wouldn’t be any where to park that would take 15 minutes to walk.
But could you confirm the green lake please?

Scan and save on a drive somewhere on the internet as well. Many insurance companies have a free drive you can use or just use Google Drive or something. Never know what might happen to those safes during an actual disaster.

In addition I would be looking for some area surveillance cameras that may help you identify your thief(s)

As a side note to the insurance issue, I have a friend that lost his entire home in one of the big California fires about 1 1/2 years ago. He is still dealing with insurance company. My problem is I could never be that detailed or anal. But that’s what the insurance company counts on.

    Mr.Pike, that sucks to hear.

I’ve had stuff stolen from me, few things feel worse than that.

You lose some trust and faith in humanity…..and few things feel more violating.

If you need some gear to get going again, you’re more than welcome to stop by. I’ll hook you up with a combo or two and horse trade some beer waytogo

I have the invasive folks watch my stuff, I tell them that I am fishing alone too. When I fish Calhoun I have to leave gear out and hike to my car. I always take my depth finder though,

Wow thanks for the support all!!! This was Green lake in Spicer my first time ever there. Well I went to my local bait shop told them what happened I go here exclusively he gave me a nice deal on a Revo sx and abu rod then i got a shimano spinning reel and a 13 rod. That’s what I love about local places Cabelas wouldn’t do that. My wife and I had a blast today we got over 35 bass and lots of little pike we really enjoyed it helped take my mind off of it I will see Monday what insurance will do. One thing for sure is there was no rods to trip over in the boat applause toast smile We both decided that with our smaller boat to rebuild we will just get more but fewer wave quality rod and reels and less clutter. It humbles me the outpouring of support by my local fishing community.

Wow, it’s really hard to imagine this happening around here. There is a brotherhood between fisherman and we help each other out and look out for each other. You must have run into one of the very few bad apples. I still can’t believe that happened here in MN.

I believe it was a isolated case. We all hear of something like this happening at times it just happened to me this time. I would say in my estimation that 99% of outdoors people are great. I’m still on just a high from catching so many bass today I usually don’t do well on openers and well that’s why I fish it is a release for me I have decided no matter what to get over this and move on besides now I can dream about which rod and reel to get next time woot

Wow so sorry to hear about this. Rods and reels can be replaced but your faith and trust in your fellow man will take a long time if ever to recover. That’s the worse thing about something like this. The violation and the hassles afterwards. Living in the northern part of the state you very seldom hear anything like this but it does happen. Mostly during the ice season when shacks get broken into mostly when the lowlifes know that no one is there.

A few years ago I had a couple of buddies ice fishing on LOTW. It was at night and they were bunked down with the rattle reels in the water. They had been having beers so were sleeping pretty good when one of them woke up and noticed the generator not running. He heard some one outside and woke the other one up went out and found two guys going through their truck. One of the thieves took off and jumped in their waiting truck. The other guy turned and punched my one buddy in the head. He went down splitting his head open on the hitch of his truck. The thieves got away because my friends couldn’t make chase.

Neither one of them fished again the rest of the season. Even now they trust no one on the ice even the well meaning guy fishing next to you who wanders over to have a beer when things are slow to see how you’re doing. Damn shame.

    Mr. Pike

If your deductible is $500 for a $1,000 worth of coverage, it’s definitely not worth claiming…..
