I hate my boat!

I downgraded rigs, I went from a 2013 Pro v 1875 to a 2007 Smokercraft 172 Ultima because it made financial sense. I like the Ultima enough, but I hate the fact that there is no rod storage. I was on the river today and almost broke one of my rods because of my clumsy feet. There is a side locker for rod storage, but it only accepts a 6 foot rod and all my walleye rods are 6’6″ or bigger. There is also a water ski locker in the middle but that seems to be where my lifejackets end up. Does anyone have any experience with this boat or a boat of similar style? Any ideas on what can I do for rod storage? I like extras put away while I fish.

My previous boat could store over 10 rods up to 10′ length in a locker.

Now I’m in “the same boat you are” and of course all my rods are 7’6″+

I just bring less rods! It does suck.

I’ve considered the vertical 8 rod holder that can go into a seat base that cabelas sells. Think James uses one and likes it.

Consider upright rod holders, mount a 4 pack on each side of counsels. I know this doesn’t take care of your storage issue but at least your rods are upright and safe. You won’t be stepping on them and have quick access when you want to change presentations

Cabelas also makes a nice 8 rod upright holder that mounts into a seat pedestal. Would be worth checking into also

That boat must have change a bit over the years. I fish 1-2 weeks a year out of my buddy’s late 90’s 172 Ultima. The rod lockers aren’t long but I can put 6’6″ and pretty sure my 7′ baitcaster fits too.

Overall I’ve been really impressed with this boat. Sorry to hear that newer isn’t always better.
