I Did A Thing

Been casually looking for a fall deal on a bigger outboard for my river boat.

The 15HP fourstroke I have does just fine with me and the boys, but eventually I know I’ll want more ponies as the boys grow and add a bow mount/batteries.

I was looking for a 25hp outboard and a boat popped up that I couldn’t pass up!!!

She’s a 2002 factory package with a 40HP fourstroke hanging on the back. Needs a heavy cleaning, impeller, bilge pump, fender and new carpet (I’ll install vinyl or foam).

Compression checked out last night, all three cylinders are within 5psi.

Comps are listed anywhere from $6,000-$10,000, I paid $4,200 yay

I’ll post some pictures of the full restoration when I get to it, but did a couple test spots last night.

A thousand more bucks and a lot of elbow grease will have her looking like new!

I just assumed with the title of this topic that we were all being invited to a huge IDO bash to celebrate EPG’s engagement toast

…a sweet boat and deal nonetheless

Sweet rig, grew up fishing out of a Rebel. My dad and myself went and picked it up when I was just a wee lad from the dealer.

Curious tho, as a river boat up there is there alot of deeper water around your parts? Seems like skinny water more suited for a Jon w a shortshaft. Yeah, I’m that guy who had to ask

Deuces all of the stuff I fish on the St. Louis and Rainy is relatively deep. There’s a few spots that get to a foot or two deep, but I’m not using it in water like the Upper Croix where tunnels or jets are the norm.

My dad had the exact same rig once upon a time, it was a great boat. Handles all the lakes near home great, and the Croix between st croix and copa. I used the heck out of it long time ago. The boys should grow perfectly in to that thing.

There’s a few models lund made that are just so good. That model rebel and the pro v tillers both from the early 2000s are a couple of their best imo. Wish I could get a brand new one made the exact same right now.

Also currently have a similar era Yamaha 40 that I bought from here. Great motor. Great buy!

Sweet! Congratulations. After the work and time you put in, this boat will mean more to you than most boats mean to their owners. Enjoy. I look forward to seeing the end result. Feel free to post pics and stories of your progress with her, I would like to watch this progress. What are you going to name her?

Heck yeah Robbie, we were trying to come up with a name just last night.

The big boat is named “Buoy Oh Buoy” after the Boys, and I can already picture a pair of blonde teenage boys cruising the lake in the tiller for chicks lol

Thinking “Double Trouble” might be a good fit for the Lund mrgreen

Not to rain on your parade but how is the transom? Lund boats in this year range seem to be notorious for transom rot issues.

Honestly the best I’ve ever seen (I’m a boat whore)

Zero pitting or paint bubbles and no signs of any flex.

I just re-did the transom on my current river beater that I bought this spring. I got a hell of a deal on that one after pointing out all of the failures on the transom. It had the classic bubbles and pits, and flexed like crazy. The top cap even started cracking.

I’ll get a couple pics up of that one, she was shot.
