I have 14 pair of the damn things and never have a pair on me when I need them flame Can’t read the menu at a restaurant, can read the package labels at the store, but I always have a set when it comes to tying fishing line for some reason whistling

I’m in the same boat. “Where are my damn glasses” is frequently uttered.

Me 2, two divorces in 5 years, far as the cheaters go, every room in the house, and both boats have a pair! And I still hunt for them. DK.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I have a pair in the van, another on my work bench where I do my tackle work. Another pair is on the night stand with my current book. I have a pair on the table in the kitchen, on the table next to my chair in the tv room and one pair on the computer table, plus I have three pairs in my various fishing tackle totes.

I’m good about getting my eyes checked every two years and get new glasses each time. The glasses simply get shuffled to an area I need a pair. My eyes don’t, or haven’t, changed much in the last 15 years so the glasses are pretty much the same. but I do add some of the cheaters so I don’t have to hunt for a pair when I want them. I have learned that I have to spend some money on the cheaters as the el-japo-cheapo glasses cause more fatigue than they are worth, but good quality cheaters are the cat’s meow for the short term, like shopping.

I refuse to put them on a chain around my neck….. Never have them when I need them… Always have my phone and when dining out I have resulted to taking pictures of the menu and enlarging the picture so I can figure out what to order…. Yes I do know exactly where the pair is in my tackle box….

Could be worse. I’ve needed glasses since I was 8 and I wear contacts now, but I wouldn’t be able to even drive myself to the store without my corrective lenses. I keep thinking about lasik but I’m probably too chicken to actually do it.

Did lasik about 20 years ago and it worked out perfect,
Had a check up last week and had to tell dr that I had the surgery as he could see no signs in my eyes
60 years old and still no glasses

    cheers

I’ll second the corrective eye surgery that Cheers referenced. I wore glasses and then contacts for about 15 years and in 2006 I got corrective laser eye surgery in both eyes. Its one of the best things I’ve ever done. I have no side effects other than perfect vision day after day after day after day. And I did in in 2006 when it was still being perfected by the industry and costed a lot more than it does now. Its much cheaper and safer these days. For those of you still wearing glasses or contacts, quit waiting around for the sky to fall and get your eyes fixed permanently.

Unfortunately lasik cannot fix bot nearsightedness and farsightedness. It’s one or the other.

As you get older the muscles in your eyes become weaker and cannot focus on objects near you. If you were to try and correct this, you’ll lose your far sight.

I had lasik when I was 23 back in 2003. I have had 2 additional adjustments in my right eye and one additional adjust in my left eye since then. My vision today is 20/20 in my left and 20/15 in my right. I am 38 now and am finally noticing that I can’t focus on things 6” from my nose. I used to be able to focus on things right up to my nose.

My last adjustment was a PRK and basically rendered me unable to have lasik surgeries anymore. It also left me with slightly dry eyes in the morning. If I were to do it all over again I would.

I buy them by the 5 pack off Amazon…. coffee Sucks when the pair in the boat can’t be found for sure.

While I will agree that most Lasik stories you’ll hear are positive ones mine is a bit different. I had my eyes done almost 3 years ago now. Had fantastic corrected vision prior. Post-surgery the pain was insane. Felt like someone had dumped gasoline into my eyes and set it ablaze. Painless procedure my… eye. Pun intended. After the recovery period my nigh vision is horrible and there’s not one distance where objects are in clear focus. Headaches and optic nerve pain caused by my eyes struggling to focus are a daily hurdle. Pass the ibuprofen, please.

I just had another round of check ups with the clinic and I’m trying to figure out when to schedule my 4th and 5th eye surgeries that have been proposed to finally correct my vision.

That’s stinks James. I had mine done 3 years ago also. Procedure was a breeze but I struggled with dry eyes for a couple months. Miserable. Constantly putting eye drops in with very little relief. Luckily, the dry eye thing got better.

My vision is good overall, but some things are not perfectly clear. Watching TV is fine, but for some reason focusing on the guide or menu is often blurry. There are times, although rare, I still wish I had a pair of glasses to put on to get that perfect crisp vision.

It is fantastic to roll out of bed and not think about glasses or contacts and just to be able to buy a pair of cheapy sunglasses is awesome. Knowing everything that has happened to me personally, I would still do it again. And I was like Sharon I had anxiety even thinking about it for 5 years always cancelling my appointment and chickening out. I had to be pretty heavily medicated just to go through with it. But I agree with James, pretty much all you ever hear is positive awesome stories but apparently there is still an element of risk.

    I’ve had glasses since I was 10.

The only time I regretted them was when the 30+ mph wind picked up and the walk through window on a boat flew closed and smacked me in the glasses/nose.

I can see were others would like surgery but I’m thinking I’ll take my glasses to the grave. )

What hurt worse, getting hit with the window or me telling you to stop bleeding all over my boat? chased

I’m fortunate to still have good vision, but I’m young. The FW had Lasik in 2013 and unfortunately she’s in the same boat as James (or so she wishes? shock ). She’s nervous to have anything else done in fear of it getting worse.

My mothers iphone font is so big that she can only get about 1 word per line…I hope I never get there, but I’m sure I will…

Lasik was the best money I ever spent. I went from not being able to see the alarm clock next to my bed to 20/15 overnight.

That being said, as I creep up on 40, I know that I’ll eventually need reading glasses, or I could go back for the “monovision” correction.
