Husqvarna Riding Mower – Any Reviews?

Has anyone here run any of the heavier duty Husqvarna Mowers? I’m in the market for something that has a differential lock, a fabricated deck, and is not just the box store residential POS.

After doing some research, I came across a new TS348XD. It looks like they are essentially in the same size range as a JD x540 (which are nice tractors). We’ve also been on the JD x700 series mowers but don’t care to spend $10k for a mower. This model Husqvarna has a steel hood, the heavier deck, locking real diff, a garden tractor rated axle and transmission, 25hp Kawasaki, 4 ply tires, and receives solid reviews. I’m generally a JD guy, but for a riding mower it’s hard to stomach dropping $7-8k for something new when these Huskys are out there with similar measurables for 3500-4k. We’ve got larger tractors and whatnot for other things so this wouldn’t be overworked. The new place has a pretty steep hill that we’ve tried relatives 0-turns on and it’s not a viable option, which led us to these. Mrs. Bucky doesn’t mind mowing and will do her share helping knock down a couple acres of grass and walking trails, so I want something reliable and comfortable for her to jump on.

    Thanks for any intel.

Husqvarna redid their lineup and I think that model has been discontinued.

But I agree Deere’s prices are just crazy. It seems to be like new pickups, some guys will just pay ANYTHING for green paint.

As long as that Husky is the right size for your amount of lawn, I don’t see any reaons not to go for it. Kawasaki’s small engines are very, very good. I work on only 1-2 of them a year and they always go back home and keep right on running. I’ve got a Kawa engine on my Deere mower that’s a 1989 model and it purrs right along. The only thing bad I have to say about Kawasaki is parts are expensive compared to Briggs. I had to do a coil for a guys Kawa powered Deer last summer, $129 my cost for the coil, and that was cheaper than the current SRP for that part. Yikes. But then again it’s the first engine repair he’s ever had done on that machine.

I don’t see anything not to like about Husq mowers.

Husky is pretty good, I ve owned a few.
    Kawasaki Engines are great

Husky uses a cheaper clutch. I’ve blown a couple apart. Compared to my JD 380 and 500, big difference in clutch

On the husky, the Hydro-Gear tranny is good. The JD trannys are higher quality than the Husky. If your relatively flat ground, no big deal. If your doing 5-8% grades, the JD will outlast the husky.

Some of the steering components on the husky are cheaper than my JD. If you have a lot of rough terrain, it could make a difference.

I have over 1000 hours on two of my husky’s and going good. Regular maintenance and proper use and it’s worth the $$$ savings. If you don’t plan on taking care of it and abuse it, get the JD

Always get your lawnmower from a dealer instead of a department store. Huge difference on quality. I don’t remember off had the model I have but it has an 18 HP Kohler motor and is still running great after 10 years. Last 5 years has been on a flat yard. I have only had to replace standard parts, wheels and a belt. I have enjoyed saving the green from it not being green.

X10 I highly recommend swinging over to Hager city, Wi to M.A.R right next to the gas station they are a Husqvarna dealer and very knowledgeable and good people.

I’ll give them a call. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, well aware of the box store junk that is out there. I won’t settle for a stamped deck, a light transmission, or anything with the dreaded “maintenance free” parts.

Here’s what I’ve found thus far:

The JD X700 series new or slightly used will be over $10k.

The JD X500 series new or slightly used will be in the $6-8500K range

The top of the line Husqvarna (comparable to the JD X500) is out there for $4500 new

The top of the line Cub Cadet XT3 series is over $7k new and probably gets the lowest reviews of anything I’ve seen mainly due to the transmission.

***Still leaning towards the Husky but finding one will be tough. It’s just hard to stomach $6-10k for a mower that will never do anything but mow. It will mow hopefully 2 acres of steep yard and another 1/4 mile of seeded walking path for the Mrs. and nothing else. No snow removal, trailer pulling, attachments, etc. We have large equipment for other stuff.

You realize the John Deere’s you are talking about have stamped decks? Just because it’s a stamped deck does not make it junk. It all depends on the thickness of the metal used. A lot of lawn care companies use X series mowers with stamped decks. My father uses X series models for his lawn care business and I did also for years and never had any issues with them. I now have a EXmark laser X series

There’s a reason the John Deere cost more. You get what you pay for. A good Deere will outlast any “top of the line” husky

I have used the sears crapsman version built by husky for ~ 5 years. I beat the he!! out of it, had to replace the blade mandrels on the deck a couple times due to me hitting stuff that shouldn’t be mowed. Overall, it has performed well.

Neighbor has a big store Husq…. louder than a herd of Harleys. Only good thing about the POS is that it’s in the shop a couple times every summer.

    God, I hate that thing….

Got a Husky from Lowes and it’s been perfect for the last 7 years. No maintenance other than the standard fall winterizing. Mow close to an acre.

    Couldn’t fathom paying $8-$10k for a lawn mower…

I guess if it takes a dump in a year or two, I’ll just get another one. Maybe I’ll need to get another one in 20 years. If so, I figure I’ll come out ahead money wise regardless..

^That’s kind of where I am at.

If I was buying it to try and use for something other than mowing…maybe I’d think about the big investment. We already have tractors, a lull, trucks, 2 fork lifts, and whatever else for bigger work sitting in the buildings.

$13,295 + tax (~$1000) for a JD X739 brings you to $14,295 for the garden tractor and mower only. shock

Yes, they are probably better and last longer. Nobody is debating that. I’d just question whether or not they will outlast x3 other mowers over time used solely for cutting grass to make it equitable or bring savings.

Your comparing a machine that they sell at lowes to the biggest gas engine mower Deere makes. You can get a X584 or 590 for less than 10k out the door and yes it’s twice the price but will last 3x as long or more not to mention 4 year bumper to bumper warranty. Another option is a X570 for about 8k with tax…
