Mandatory evac orders issued for coastal Miami/Dade tonight. 25% of gas stations in south FL out of fuel.
This isn’t trending in the right direction. Here’s hoping for better news for everyone down there.

Dutch, doesn’t she live in Eustis? The elderly definitely should think about leaving.
My area is far enough inland and I’m not near any rivers, so flooding isn’t a concern.
It isn’t a macho thing for sure. My main concern is losing electricity. I’ve heard about people this far inland losing power for weeks. That and keeping the water out of the house if there is minor flooding. Matthew put water withing an inch of the doors leading to the house from the Lanai.
Come late Friday and early Saturday we should have a better idea of what to expect as far as sustained winds and gusts here Sunday night into Monday morning.
Right now I see gusts to 75 mph. That’s a severe thunderstorm wind. Not great, but not catastrophic. Of course things can change and you know I am watching it closely.
Pug I think I heard of a 20 ft. tidal surge are you sure your high enough incase it does reach that height, I think I even heard of 30 ft waves, how far inland are they going to go. Id pay really close attention forsure wheather it goes up the east coast, central right up the middle of the state or the west coast, be carful.
I just got a report from St Thomas USVI. devastating destruction. the resort we stay at is destroyed.. 12 ft storm surges. buildings actually imploding. roofs off. Frenchtown is completely gone. said it made Hugo and Marilyn seem like thunderstorms in comparison

I am a good 30-40 miles inland. For a surge that high the hurricane has to be making direct landfall and that’s going to happen on the south end of Florida.
If anyone is watching and wondering where abouts I am when you look at the maps, we are pretty much where the pink dot is. I usually gauge where I am on radars and maps by going straight west from where (A) the little point on the east coast begins.

That’s sustained winds Pug……Thunderstorm winds are different……
Her tropical storm winds extend 150 miles, hurricane force 95 miles from the eye,If she goes on or close to the west coast you’re still in for nasty poop…..
Godspeed my friend…….
Pug, I hope you are considering moving out to some place safer. Watching the destruction and animations comparing its size to Andrew are incredible. Its like 5 times the size of Andrew. Width wise it can hammer the West and East coast at the same time.
Be safe bud! Long hockey season ahead and I want some of your feedback!
Traffic getting out of the state is bad and we have no place to go. I don’t think anyone in the neighborhood is evacuating.
The worst possible scenario would be a tree falling on the house. We have a bathroom no tree could hit.
I’m going to need a vacation after this. How’s Minnesota this time of year?
The only good thing about a hurricane is that there is plenty of warning.
You always have a place to go Pug…getting there is the problem I would guess.

The weather is absolutely miserable right now. Sun, 70’s to possibly 80. Lows in the upper 40’s near 50.

Pug,
Sounded like you may still be dealing with a Cat 2 storm once it reaches your area. Stay safe.
This morning the models shifted more west again. That’s good, but she’s going to turn when she turns and go where she goes.
Can someone post a site they are going to for the latest info please? I can’t find a decent one
Stay safe Pug!! we need your great hockey mind in about 3 weeks.
also, if any of the live streams have been locking up I am been jumping around to other ones on youtube.

There will be a little learning curve viewing models, recon and what not, but the best site out there for forecasts.
Euro Model This is the most accurate model to date. It runs (is updated) ever 12 or 24 hours. Looking at the models, look in upper left for zulu time. Example 18z = 2pm Eastern (1pm Central).
Aircraft recon will show wind fields and air pressure at the eye. The lower the numbers, the stronger the storm and higher the winds.
Weather Nerds Cool Satellite imagery
You may hear about eyewall replacement cycles. This means an outer eye forms that takes over the center one. During this time the storm usually weakens, but spreads the wind fields out further.
What about the FB kid in MI? What’s he saying?
He’s been pretty reliable for winter storms.
Everything outside put away and now it’s pretty much drink beer and wait.
Once again models moved west. 75-100mph gusts. Not too considering what we could have been looking g at. Praying for gulf coast of Florida.
Good to hear Pug, but do you have your rain boots ready, rain coats ready, rain suits ready? Have you ordered your pizza, your chinese food? Do you have cases of Pepsi, cases of Coke, have your Samsung Galaxy charged? Take care, stay safe.
I’d be worried about all them damn snakes floating / swimming around when the water gets high.
This hurricane is a good reminder to not think about the exact path 3+ days out, just plan for the worst if you are inside the cone. Once you get inside 3 days the model paths matter.
We were planning on going to Fort Myers Beach again this spring. Doubt that will be happening now. God’s speed to everyone down there.
Slight shifts west again making landfall near Tampa. Not sure if it is better for us, because it’s further away, but less land interacy with means it will be stronger closer to us.
We are already talking about spending fall weekends volunteering. I have a feeling from the keys all the way up North of Tampa will be devastated.
First great Floridaman video from Irma
I guarantee you there will be more like the guy kite surfing in Miami.
These guys showed up in the Lanai. Never seen such a small frog. I believe they are greenhouse frogs.
