I may be in the market for a Action camera. Not sure if I want to spend the $ for a Go-Pro. My current need is to film my daughters 1st Turkey hunt in a few weeks. Other than that I may like to film future turkey, Deer, and Duck hunts.I possibly might like to get some ice fishing footage with it as well someday. Other than the Go-Pro’s, are there any other cheaper units out there that will serve my purpose. Other than the cost the Go-Pro’s have tons of feature I most likely will not need, and I’ve heard they are not all that easy to use. Any Info. or suggestions are much appreciated.

Youtube go pro footage and then look at all the others.

Go pro hands down. With any optics you pay for what you get.

Everything depends on what you’re going to use it for. I’m certainly no expert, I don’t own a cam, like you I’ve looked into them, but I’m not willing to spend big bucks as I doubt I’d use it enough.

For strap-it-to-your-head footage, I’m not sure anything out there will beat the Go-Pro. That’s my view of what people out there who own them say.

For simple capture of you + the action where both you and the subject are in the frame, I liked the idea of the MUVI cameras with the small remote to start the camera. For $120, it would be really cool to be able to put the camera up high where it could get both you and the turkey in the frame just like if you had a professional cameraman.

But as pointed out above, you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t expect anything cheaper than a go pro to work better or last longer. Just what I’ve heard.

You definitely get what you pay for. If you are looking for an “Action Cam”, I wouldn’t even consider anything other then a GoPro. For one they have a rechargeable Lithium Battery and will work great in cold weather. However, if you are looking to film a hunt, I wouldn’t recommend a GoPro because the zoom or lack there of is only good for the first 10′. One other major thing with the GoPro is accessories. By the time you are done buying memory cards, straps, and other attachments, the price of the camera is cheap.

IMO; You would probably be better off buying the best camcorder you can buy in your price range. Best Buy will match any price you can find on Amazon (that “ships” by Amazon) for all in-store purchases.

Action Cams like the GoPro are meant to be pointed at the person and catch the action or movement at very close range.

I thought the same thing about filming with the GoPro for harvest shots before I owned one. Now, I don’t even consider trying to film a hunt with it. I just have it facing me and catching close up movements.
