Yep. Totally agree. It’s frustrating and there was NEVER any reason for the whole panic .22 buying spree, which then caused the hoarders and scalpers to move in and so the shortage continues to this day.
You CAN occasionally find some places who will save their shipments for a special event. Another IDO member who lives next to the Eden Prairie Gander went over and bought me a bulk pack of 525 about 3 weeks ago when Gander had some kind of mega sale promo on. But you had to get there quick and the limit was one and only one, so you can’t really get ahead of the game. I’m saving this brick of ammo.
Finally the retailers are providing some customer service by putting into place controls that should have been implemented a long time ago. Special thanks to both Gander Mtn and Fleet Farm, as well as a number of smaller shops for helping to slow down asshat hoarders and slimy resellers by staggering when they put the ammo on shelves and slowing down putting it out over time rather than dumping it all on the shelf at once and allowing scummy lawnchair-sitting profiteers to grab it all in one go as soon as the store opens.
I just got back from New Zealand, and the American ammo blitz has just hammered those poor guys down there. They’re at the end of the Earth, only 4.5 million people so a limited market, etc. And they use a LOT of rimfire for possum and rabbit control, two invasive species that are a plague down there. So things are bad all over.
Based on how things appear to be trending, I’m going to predict that the shortage will last all through 2014 with better supplies starting to turn up late in the year. Assuming we don’t have another panic, 2015 will finally see shelves fill up again.

paulzPosts: 39March 12, 2014 at 4:52 pm #1352842We have had various .22lr ammo in stock constantly for the past 6 weeks. Never quite know what brand or quantities there will be but I have kept a fairly steady supply. Prices are a bit inflated but definetely not gouging. Basically, I cant buy smart either. When I find a wholesaler with them I buy them as long as the price is somewhat in line. Right now the only stuff we have is Winchester 235 count boxes for $18.99
I did get a bunch of .22WMR if someone is looking for it. The stuff we got is the Winchester PDX1 round designed for Personal Defense.
If there is anything you are looking for please feel free to give us a call. As I have said before, we have dropped the price on every firearm we have and I promise you we can compete with the big guys on price and blow them away with the entire shopping experience. You will leave glad you stopped!
