The rest of the State doesn’t want deer setting goals….
I don’t live in the southeast but I am sure disappointed I didn’t get picked. Wish they would set up regional groups to better inform them of what is going on in your neck of the woods instead of a educated guess.
There are deer hunters paying for this that don’t live or hunt in these zones. I didn’t know the state only values the population in the southeast. It’s the personal attention I have a problem with. This should be a state wide thing and let each county/zone/region decide what is the best for each area.
If you don’t hunt in the southeast.
How do you feel about being left out? Your goal is set by statistics not by feedback and proper evaluation. I don’t know this for a fact but it sure seems like it.
First and foremost, thank you for your time and dedication to natural resource management in the state.
We received 92 nominations to participate in the advisory team for deer goal setting in southeast Minnesota. Unfortunately, to ensure productive team meetings, we had to limit participation. A committee of DNR staff conducted a two-part, blind review of the nominations (i.e. all names were replaced with a unique identification number). After narrowing down the field to 30 individuals based upon familiarity with the zone and representation of diverse perspectives and organizations, team members were selected by the Central Region Manager in St. Paul. The final team was selected to ensure good geographic representation of the permit areas and deer management interests.
We regret to inform you that you were not selected to participate as an advisory team member. We carefully considered all nominees and apologize for the delay in providing a response to your nomination.
Your comments and opinions are important. We would like to acknowledge your time and energy and invite you to share your thoughts regarding deer population goals in the Southeast with DNR staff on Wednesday, March 5th from 5:00-6:00 pm at the Rochester Public Library, Meeting Room B, 101 2nd ST. SE. This session is open to individuals who indicated an interest in volunteering for the team through the open call for nominations.
Finally, please note that there are additional opportunities for you to provide your perspectives on deer population goals in the southeast region, including participating in public meetings (February 19 in Lake City or Feb. 25 in St. Charles) and providing input via the online questionnaire or email/mail comments. Please send any comments regarding the deer population goals to [email protected] (this new email will be available by Feb. 13) or to the mail address (Attn: SE Deer Goals, Minnesota DNR, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155). More information on the process and opportunities to participate is available on the DNR Deer Management webpage.
Please contact me if you have questions about the March 5th session or the process in general. Team members will be publicly announced in the near future.
Thank you again for your time and interest.
Sincerely,
Leslie
