Did I find a loophole?

Reading the regs this AM. “Regular Archery License—A regular archery license is valid for an either-sex deer statewide in any open area. Closed areas and season dates are listed on page 91.” (Page 68 of MN regs).

So for example. In our zone there were 25 doe tags available this year. Couldn’t a guy just buy an archery tag, carry a bow and take a doe in a low doe lottery zone during rifle season without applying for a doe tag?

The amount of doe tags only pertains to rifle and muzzeloader.

I think this paragraph from the regs wrecks your plans if you plan to shoot a buck with your rifle tag. You can only shoot one deer in a lottery area.

Lottery Deer Areas—The bag limit is one deer total per year, regardless of license type. if you take a deer in a lottery deer area, you cannot take another
deer in another lottery or hunter choice deer area.

The way I understood it was, you had to hunt bucks only with a bow during the gun-muzzleloader season unless you had a doe permit. I could be wrong. A quick call to the CO might be in order.

No, you misunderstand. No rifle. Hunt just 3 weeks like any other rifle hunter. But buy an archery tag and shoot a bow.

Called the DNR information line. They said yep. Perfectly legal way to get a doe tag anywhere.
