Unbelieveable! Reminds me of the time I was told to take an 11 yr. old “plinkster” out small game hunting with me when I was 15. He was alerting every animal in the woods, I scolded him for it, and he said I was full of it. So I sent him back to the cabin and came back with 4 squirrels only 45 minutes later! So he pleaded, “Take me out again! I’ll do better!” So I did.
We got near the south end of a 40 when I spot a snow shoe hare in the balsams. I raised my .22 and made a perfect head shot! Well, for us educated hunters, we understand that a head shot animal goes nuts even though it’s ALREADY DEAD! He shouted, “Why aren’t you shooting? It’s gonna get away!” I tried to tell him I didn’t need to but again, don’t listen to the experienced one. He raised his .22 and he cracked off 3 shots so fast I couldn’t hardly react AND…. put two bullets right into the meat of my rabbit in the process! I wanted to kill him!
This guy shooting the “flailing turkey” is one of those stories that really irritate me because EVERYONE that goes into the woods NEEDS TRAINING! If you don’t have someone to mentor you, come to a place like IDO here and ask questions! Find someone to help you! Watch a gazillion kill shots on video! People need to know by the actions of their quarry what kind of shot they made and whether or not it’s a killing shot. A head/brain shot EVERYTHING will go nuts and there is no putting it out of it’s misery. IT’S ALREADY DEAD!!! Not to mention, we’re supposed to KNOW for certain what our target is!
I second Kooty’s opinion and readily admit that I’m really not interested in public hunting areas. You never know what idiot is out there.
