First Crow!

The Men (my 9 & 12 year old boys) and I strapped on the snowshoes and did a little crow hunting this morning. We tossed some lead at a few that soared over kinda high, and then when we were trampsing through the pines away from our first set up we had a loner come over us at tree top level. Grant (12) brought him down. His first wing-shot bird.

As usual, Bella would only retrieve it halfway to the hand. Crows must taste bad, as she does this with the first crow each March.

I’m very low-tech with my crow hunting. 3 decoys and an old boombox that plays a fighting crow cassette tape. Couldn’t find 8 D batteries around the house today, so I cracked the stereo open and wired it up to plug into 7A 12V rechargable flasher battery.

    Great job, Guys!

I too, enjoy crow hunting from time to time. It’s amazing how close and fast crows come into the ‘crow music’

You seem to be spending a lot of quality time with those fortunate young men. Good job getting them out there and congrats on the first bird!

Teach your kids to hunt and you won’t have to hunt for your kids…

Sounds like an awesome way to spend some time in the field with “the men”.

Great pics! My boys have been out all winter setting up on the birds. Amazing how smart they are. Lately the birds have become a little decoy shy so they have been using a solo owl then firing up the fox pro set on crow fight. They usually down a few birds every set with many other”holy craps, how did I miss those!” Great practice and a fun, forgotten sport. Funny with the retrievals, my lab would hustle out, grab and drop the bird, snort a bunch then grab it by the very last wing tip feather then bring it in
