I heard a guy tell me today that people, livestock, and even game animals are suffering adverse effects from the frequency given off by windmills. I am wondering if anyone has noticed odd behavior of game near windmills while hunting out scouting?

    Welcome to IDO!!

I’ve never hunted around windmills so I don’t have an opinion. However, our neighbors have them over water tanks and I see critters around them all the time.

    Welcome!
I assume your are talking about the general area of the BIG wind turbines? I wouldnt think it would have an affect and maybe even sounds a little like hunters down on their luck looking for something to blame it on?? Then again, I don’t hunt near them but I guess that could be the case.

thanks, I do know there us a lawsuit on the east coast regarding health problems due to the windmills and they may be taking some of them down because of that. I was just wondering if there was an effect seen on animals also, other than all the flying animals that they kill.

I hunt a few areas near the wind turbines in SW Minnesota and haven’t seen any adverse effects on animals. Some of the turbines are in pastures, so there are livestock around them. In other areas, it seems as if the wild animals know them as a refuge because the birds fly and deer run to them after we kick them up. The most common animal I see out there is coyotes cruising along the ridge at night.

Ah, wind turbines. OK. Well, we have a huge “farm” of them in my home county. They have definitely changed the landscape of the country. As for hurting critters, I’ve asked a few friends who “house” the turbines. They haven’t seen anything out of the norm. As a matter of fact most in our area run cattle in the same pastures. I asked about bird deaths and they said they might get a few, but it’s not like there are piles of birds under each. They feel it’s an overstated myth for the anti-turbine crowd.

Until we see some biological/scientific proof they are a detriment, I’ll remain indifferent to their presence.
