Anyone have a quick fix for swelling? (not the kind that Kooty gets on a plane). Shot a nail through my thumb this week. After disconnecting the nail gun, I had to slip it between a few boards on my hay wagon and use a pry bar to pull it out. Definitely put an end to holding a bow and holding a rifle equally as hard. IBprofin(sp?) so far is like eating sugar tablets

Ice is always good for swelling, but you might consider the Dr Office and get some real pain killers. This could get even nastier!

When I get hurt Randy I always use Advil for back pain, If that doesn’t work I go to the doctors and get something stronger. Maybe soak in epsom salts, if the wounds open and infected or not. Any body part connected to the hands has 10 times the nerves that any other part of the body does because of the sense of touch, so thats why it hurts and swells so much. Keep it wrapped with Neo sporin on the wound. Through the thumb would hurt like hell, especially if its coil nails with the barbs still connected to the nail shaft. Don’t feel like your dumb as I’ve shot a 1 1/2″ roofing nail to the bone in my thigh and hit my finger twice in a row within two minutes with a 28 oz. framing hammer on a full swing, bled right through the fingernail. Pain killers at the doctors is the only answer as far as Im concerned, don’t like to put up with the pain while having to work at the same time…

I know your pain Randy I just hope it didn’t hit bone. I was re-framing my basement 6 years ago and needed two more studs and instead of going and picking up I used two of the 35 year old hard as a stone studs that were in the basement from the tear down. While nailing in from top plate my aim was a little off and put about 3″ of a 3 1/2″ nail into my hand between thumb and index finger, when I pulled it out to my suprise no blood. Took some advil that night because it was a little sore but for the next week and a half the hand was pretty much useless. Hope it gets better soon so you can get back to the woods

Its cracked. above the joint below the base of the finger nail – 3-1/4″ 10d @ 105 psi. In the last 30+ years, I’ve nailed my boots, coat, gloves, leg, and a co-worker. Never took a direct hit. This is a pain in the

    Randy man:
#1 if you haven’t had a recent tetanus shot, you better get one!

    Keep it elevated amap.
    Keep it clean and dry.
Keep it bandaged if out doing anything.
If it is swollen and very reddened, and feels hot, it’s infected, see you DR. or Nurse asap!
