My 3 daughters and I headed back “home” last weekend to take in the pheasant opener, do a little deer hunting and help Grandpa around the farm. It’s amazing how much easier this trip is now that the girls can all play their Nintendo DS’s. The 6+ hours tends to go by much faster. We arrived Friday night about 7:30 and the weekend festivities started off almost immediately. Put the kids down about 9:15 and I headed to some family just down the road. We told a few old lies, a few new ones and simply enjoyed the camaraderie pheasant opener brings. I suspect Mn gun deer opener is much the same.
Saturday AM we were up early to deliver some pheasants then back home to start working on our list of To Do items. #1, get the new box blind resurrected again. The blind was in worse shape than Dad had lead me to believe, however, we were able to farmer it back together. Good enough for the remainder of the fall anyway. I missed the first 45 minutes of pheasant hunting because I had my head down working on the blind. I could hear a lot of shooting though as it was a very mild day. I did join two high school buddies, another great friend and the land owner down at their land. They already had 4 in the bag. Now we needed another 11 more. We had some great walks even though no dogs this year. We could have shot a little better, but in a little over an hour we had our limit.
I hunted with my two oldest daughters on Sunday night. We only saw 4 does, but 3 were right out our back door as we left for the night. 15 minutes sooner would have been nice. The rest of the weekend was spent working around the farm. We accomplished a lot and the girls had a blast with Grandpa and Grandma. I’ll be back in two weeks. Sorry I didn’t take more pics, but here are a few from trail camera and cell phone.
