It’s been a pretty good month for Kaden and his family. About 3-4 weeks ago he had surgery to remove the tumors inside his lungs. Once again, Kaden exceeded the time line for surgery and there were no hidden surprises that the doctors could find after they opened him up. They literally had there hands inside his little rib cage feeling for small (sand grain sized) tumors. But all was good. Out of ICU a day early and home 3 days after having another persons hands inside his chest. Amazing.
The next step was radiation to the tumor on his spine. Surgery was out of the question since one of his major nerves ran right through the center of that tumor. The plan was for (5) small quick doses of radiation, lasting 3 minutes each. Pretty amazing again was our little hero as he never moved a muscle and was able to do the radiation with out being sedated. It took longer to prep him than it did to do the treatment. Doctor’s, his parents and the attendants were amazed at Kaden. On your last radiation treatment you get to ring the bell at the front desk as your leaving. This bell is to symbolize that your done with radiation and you should be cancer free. As I understand it, Kaden rang that bell long and loud yesterday.
Today he had his port removed, which is another step to being completely done with cancer (we know he’ll never be done, it will be a life time of follow ups to make sure he stays cancer free) but for now, no more tubes, no more chemo and no more radiation.
The official findings will not be known until November, which is just waaaaayyy to long for me know, and I’m not even family. I’ll just have to keep on praying and hoping that Kaden finally kicked cancer in the azz for good this time.
On another good note, Kaden’s Make-A-Wish cruise is starting to take shape. All they will have to do is pack, all the rest is taken care of. Limo service, shuttles, room, board, meals, drinks. Everything, what an amazing organization.
I’m just so happy for Kaden and his parents that I might just have to go kill a deer this weekend.
Take care everyone
