It was a long day at SMH that ended in receiving the news that we dreaded. The CT and MRI showed that the tumors have grown during the last two rounds of chemo. It was our worst nightmare that just became a reality. Once again, we are back to ground zero. We now know we are dealing with a very aggressive cancer. One that has evaded 5 different chemotherapies. We will be meeting with radiation oncology, orthopedics, and oncology tomorrow (even though we met with Dr. Arndt today last minute). The course of action is still the same; remove the tumors from the lungs and then hit the spine with high dose radiation. Our hope now is that radiation can kill the spinal tumor and that no new turmors show up. Dr. Arndt want another PET scan to make sure that no other tumors have developed elsewhere in the body. How can this happen, you might be asking yourself? Unfortunately cancer can become resistant to chemotherapy even after it has responded…it’s the God-awful reality of cancer. We’re not giving up hope…we’ll fight as long as we have to. Lung surgery could occur as soon as Friday. Kaden needs a ton of prayers right now because we are now behind the eight ball. We are trying our best to find something positive to grasp. It’s hard right now but we will continue to stay strong for Kaden. He knows his tumors have grown and that it is not good. But, Kaden is still being Kaden…happy-go-lucky. He told Logan he will beat it…I pray to God he is right.
