No more Ruger Red Label

I have been so focused on fishing I have been kinda out of hunting for the last 3 years. Well with the arrival of my son and the sale of my boat I have been shifting my focus back onto hunting.

I figured it was time to reward myself with a new duck gun. I have always wanted a Ruger Red Label (stainless/synthetic) for ducks. Come to find out Ruger stopped production last year on the Red Labels. That is a darn shame. That was a good over/under model for a good price.

My Bro in law has one and yes they are a very nice gun! You could always take a look at the Browning Citori. I have had mine since 1983 and it is by far my favorite duck gun. I normally use my Benelli Nova cause it’s 3,5″ and camo, but when push comes to shove I want that Citori in my hands. I can’t miss at the trap range with it either

Yeah, I have a couple and really like them. I wanted to add to my collection. I did look at the Citori last night as well. Nice gun. I haven’t handled them enough to know much about them.

I’d purchased a Red Label as a gift to myself upon discharge from the Army about 20 years ago. I’d always dreamed about having an over/under – and have always been a fan of Ruger.

Had nothing but problems with the thing…the first fall in the duck boat, it wouldn’t eject spent shells. Contacted Ruger and they sent me a new shotgun. Nice. A year later, while grouse hunting (feeling ever so elit toting an over/under rather than a clunky ol’ pump), the tang safety jammed. Wouldn’t select off of “safe” – yet the gun would fire. Sent it back to Ruger, they fixed it (no new gun this time) and I ended up trading it in for something else – a Benelli.

    Hmph.

Having said all of that, I’m still a fan of Ruger – and plan on lining up my 12 year-old with one of thier new American Rifles.

That is funny you say that. I am a huge fan of the Red Label and #1 but I really dislike the junk triggers Ruger puts in their rifles. I have never bought a Ruger rifle and been able to bring it home. As soon as I paid for it, I had a new quality trigger put into it. On trigger we could not adjust below 8# of pull. That is insane.
