Keep the prayers and thoughts coming please….
Kaden’s PET scan today confirmed the two spots in his lung and in addition a spot on his lower (lumbosacral region) spine. With a PET scan radioactive glucose is injected into his blood stream and any cells in the body that are highly metabolic and dividing will take it up and give off an emission during the scan. There appears to be a very bright spot on his spine as well. Again, another shocking blow. The odds just worse because we are obviously dealing with an extremely aggressive cancer. Kaden will have an MRI tomorrow to confirm that it is in fact a tumor. The MRI will also let the doctors know whether or not it could be taken out. Regardless, Kaden will start chemotherapy tomorrow. Our greatest hope is that the tumors respond to the chemo. Our worst fear is that they don’t and/or new tumors show up elsewhere in the body. We are having Fr. Connelly come to the house tonight to do an annointing of the sick. We had this planned before we even had the PET scan. Dr. Arndt once again told us she’s not giving up. Right now it’s hard not to think the worst. Metastatic cancer that has returned so quickly is the worst kind. I’m not cried out yet…that will take a little while. But tomorrow we’ll come back fighting. We may honestly need a miracle.
