Hard to say, its pretty dry out, doesnt matter how hot it is, if they dont have moisture they wont grow

Maybe earlier than normal but I’ll bet by days and not weeks. That sort of thing seems more dependant on amount of sun and chances are its going to get cool again.
I’m watching the other plants. When ground cover starts to grow and certain bushes get tiny leaves I will be looking.

lilacs are green here so I took a look under a few trees today that have been good producers the last few years. no luck. got the itch though!

The lilac leaves here are over an inch long and the buds are visable, its really early this year. If things keep going like they are finding schrooms will be early this year. Jerry a friend of mine is an avid mushroom hunter and lives right by a good timber and he says about two more weeks here for the greys.

My father in law always used the old adage “when the leaves on the oaks are the size of a squirrels ear” as the guage for morel mushrooms.

I look for dandelions blooming, lilacs blooming and asparagus popping up as good indicators for “shrooms”.

Spawning crappies and morels go together, too.

I’m beginning to change my mind. Things are popping I have NEVER seen this early. It would be great if morals came up in mid April so it doesnt conflict with opening fishing season.

They have been finding a few in NE Iowa this last week. I know it sounds way to early but we just had a couple good rains and 2 weeks that the temp was over 70 every day and the lows never got below 50 at night.
