I didn’t want to hi-jack the Work Out Thread and wanted to give everyone an update for Kaden also. I finally got my azz out of bed this morning at 4:55 and laced up the shoes. I wasn’t 3 blocks from my house and my shins and calves were already burning. For some reason I thought of Kaden and his leg. If this little 4 year kid with cancer can find it in him to walk on a prosthetic then what the HECK am I complaining about. Here’s a recent update from Kadens Mom…..
Kaden was a bit resistant to his prosthetic last night and again this morning. We got him to put it on this morning but he didn’t want to walk in it. I think he feels he can get around faster by crawling…it was slowing him down! But, we had a HUGE change in his attitude while we were sitting in the PITC waiting for his lab results. I wanted him to realize that he needs to practice using his prosthetic so I asked him if he would show me where the bathroom was. He really likes helping me find things so I thought this would be a good opportunity to get him walking. I had him use the wheelchair as a walker. He did a great job and I could see the wheels in his head turning…”Hey I can do this!” To make a long story short, Kaden can now walk by himself at a very good pace with his prosthetic!!! In fact, he didn’t sit down for over an hour because he was having fun being independent…walking up the ramp and going up and down the stairs! He was very adventuresome. Who wouldn’t be after not “walking” on two feet for nearly 6 months. He was so proud to be walking around. Of course it’s not a perfect walk but it is so nice seeing him upright on two feet without a walker! He walked off the elevator, down the stairs and down the hallway on Francis 3. Some of the nurses had to do a double take because they haven’t seen Kaden with his prosthetic. Kaden made huge strides today…the prosthetic is his new friend! Whew…I was a little worried yesterday.
Kooty, not to point you out brother, but I know you’ve struggling and anyone else that needs some extra motivation, use it, it worked for me. If Kaden can do it, we all can.
