Kaden steps into the spotlight to teach other young kids about pediatric cancer. Check out his Mom’s latest post….
Today we got up bright and early so that we could head over to Byron (about 10 minutes outside of Rochester) middle school. One of our hematology/oncology nurses, Amy, has a son in 7th grade there. The 7th grade class was learning about health and cancer and so she was asked to give a talk on pediatric cancer. She wanted to share Kaden’s story as well so she asked us to join her. After Amy got done talking about osteosarcoma she had us come up in front of the students in the auditorium. Kaden had no hesitation getting up on stage. The 7th graders had alot of great questions for us and Kaden! Kaden wasn’t shy about answering questions because he liked talking in the microphone Such a little ham! The students were very attentive…I was pleasantly surprised; my own college students typically aren’t even that well behaved! Kaden made the students laugh a few times and I think he stole the hearts of some of the girls! After we were done several students came up to us and thank us and Kaden. I thought that was very mature and thoughtful of them. A few students even shared their medical issues with us. It was a great experience for Kaden. I have no doubt in my mind that even though Kaden will always be “unique” that being accepted by his peers will ever be an issue. Once again the people of Byron were wonderful! Kaden was tired from getting up so early that he fell asleep in the car and proceeded to take a 2 hour nap this morning! He slept great in his “real” room (as he calls it). He looked so comfy in his bed this morning I felt bad waking him up. I got him dressed while he was half asleep. I asked for his right foot and a little foot popped out from underneath the covers…so cute! Kaden’s appetite has been great…he’s hungry all the time! He is feeling more solid again. This weekend Rylee and Carley have their last basketball tournament here in Rochester. Other than that it will be a relaxing weekend at home. TJ is doing great too!
Such a brave and cool thing for a young 4 year kid to do. He’s only about 30 days from being done with chemo.
