For general use–not flying and/or shipping–just transport in a vehicle.

    And why?

I use a hard sided all the time simply because I have a pickup and normally I’m hauling stuff in the back end.

I do a lot of stalking when I can, so I like a cloth to roll up and throw in my pocket. That way i have a case if I get a ride back home in someone else’s vehicle. Other than that, I like hard case for truck, ATV, Snowmobile,….With the cost of optics, its well worth the investment of a good case

I think this could be 2 questions…. for scoped rifles, hard case. For shotgun, open sighted, then a soft case.

Good point. I think a hard case for anything scoped is a good idea

That’s how I operate. Most times a hard sided would be in the way and using up valuable space when bird hunting as well as being cumbersome and unecessary.

I’m surprised there are that many soft sided guys out here. And G is right, there’s a purpose for both but I don’t think my scoped guns have ever seen the inside of a cloth case.

I tend to prefer a high quality drag bag, lighter in weight yet almost the same protection of a hard case. Some of the high quality drag bags are capable of packing a rifle, shotgun and pistol all at the same time so they are well padded with plenty of pockets for extra mags, suppressors, etc.

I use a model from Voo-Doo Tactical for my Barrett, and my son has one from Midway USA.
