Determining Acreage?

Has anyone found an effective way to determine their acreage of a small piece of ground by using Google Maps or something similar? I am sure I can scale them off but was wondering if there was an add-on or program that calculates it for you? I have a dozen or so areas that I would like to figure out size for food plots.

    Thanks

There are a couple of sights i found that have created a function in google maps to do this…search daftlogic or Google planimeter. Both are easy to use and seem pretty accurate, I checked my land and a foodplot where I already know the acreage and they were both right on. I think you need Google Earth Pro to measure an area there…

I use the GIS site for the county the land is located in. Works great

Many hand-held GPS units offer an acerage calculation feature. In the case of odd-sized pieces, you have to walk (or drive) the full parmimeter. With square or rectangle pieces, you can walk just two sides.

If you have a GPS, then look into it. I know Garmin has had this on some models for a long time.
