I have a feeling he is liked or disliked depending on your generation. I personally enjoy his shows but I know it has a lot to do with my SD roots and the fact I bought A LOT of gas and bait from the Spies over the years I lived in Watertown.
Matter of fact, I first laid eyes on my wife in one of Spies stores in Watertown, little did I know buying minnows would lead to this.
