Had some help from my cow buddies shooting this coyote…

If you even need a cow decoy, just setup a ground blind in the middle of the pasture.

    Sheesh!

Haha. This was turkey hunting this spring in SD.

My buddy Jeff was calling one day last week in SD while I was in the tree. He put his auto caller on a fence post by the bull pasture. When he started calling I guess the bulls got all kinds of worked up and started banging on the post etc… He quit because he didn’t want them to damage the caller.

Yep, cows are a curious animal… Put anything unusual in a pasture and it will draw them right in. My dad raises black angus back home in Malmo and earlier we had a pretty funny/scary (scary at the time/funny now) situation while I was checking my trail cams. I drove out on the wheeler with my favorite girlfriend and lab in tow… One of my cameras is in a part of one of our pastures and when I stopped to swap chips I left my gal and pup in the open pasture to minimize scent by my camera. As I’m walking into the woods I hear Kellie start yelling.. At first I thought she was yelling at Max to keep him from following me into the woods but when I stopped to listen I realized she was scared… As I came running out on the woods at a full sprint I see her running into the woods and the cattle standing by my wheeler with a confused look on their face.

I felt so bad for Kellie as even though I’m used to the cattle and know she was in no danger, she isn’t used to them and was truely terrified when as she told me “All of a sudden there were 25 giant black animals charging at me!” … Luckily she’s a great sport and we can laugh about it now

I think a few of us would have paid to see that….

Some great cow stories and photos guys!

We used to rent out some of our land to a cattle rancher and he was to get all the cattle out by Sept 1st and before bow season. Well one year he couldn’t catch this one cow because “it was too wild”

No matter what I did, this cow would screw up my hunts over and over again. It would always be right next to the stand I was about to hunt and when I would approach, it will run off through the woods like a freight train taking everything with it.

One night I was hunting during the firearm season and little g was sitting above me with the video camera. We were hunting a big 8 pointer that we had captured on a couple of trail cams and we were hunting this really thick stuff and right near his bedroom. Light was fading and we could hear that big buck coming one step at time. He then stopped and we could hear him working over a tree while making a rub. My heart raced and I had to be ready because I would have to take a quick shot through a small shooting lane. Little g who was above me and could see better than me, says “get ready… yep…. it’s the big 8 and he’s coming NOW!” I raised up my rifle and my heart was pounding… he was getting closer and closer and there was no doubt in my mind that he was going to show himself. Finally, he pops out and it’s the big cow!

I asked little g “the big 8 huh?” He replies “well what other deer is going to have a big body like that cow.”
