So I get a call from my dad last pm saying hey I found a trail camera in our mailbox I was like wth and whats it look like and what kind is it Come to find out it’s one of mine that I had on private property for over a month now and have checked it from time to time during gun season … Go figure they cleared the SD card I guess I forgot to say that my name is on the back of the camera and they drove 4 miles to put it in his mailbox So do you think someone took the thing and then seen the name on the back and was like OH SH&^ or is someone just playing games with us I’m so sick of this crap I could puke

Maybe someone else has the perception that they have exclusive permission to the property and your no longer invited to the party… Had a similar case with a property a few miles away from my farm. They took it upon themselves to take down a treestand and haul it to the farmer’s polebarn, and tell him they “found this” in his woods. That’s how they found out they weren’t the only ones there

November 15, 2011 at 3:18 pm #114847Deer hunting brings out the worst in people. Always has and always will. Especially gun season.
November 15, 2011 at 4:31 pm #114853At least you got your camera! I have learned not to hunt during the firearms seasons, mostly on the weekends because of the other clowns that have permission to hunt too I pull all my cameras on these properties because i don’t want them stolen. But i put them back out after the firearms season

Fire that Bi&^%$ up bud …. Talked to the owner and he is not happy about this It’s kicking time …. More cameras going up and they will get bolted to the trees and locked down …. Hope they try it again
November 15, 2011 at 6:27 pm #114862Guy is on land that he should not be on and he hears a click. Walks around with an “Ohh Shucks” look on his face and decides he is going to steal the camera. Gets back to his truck and realizes I know this guy, man am I a huge Jack wagon
Well being that he realizes that his face is on the camera, he does the only thing he can do so you don’t know who he is, so he takes the card, and returns it to your Dad’s house so he is for sure not going to run into you and have to explain himself.
Be happy you got it back

J/K, Like Farmboy1 said. Somebody was somewhere they should not have been and figured it out too late. P.O.S. move if you ask me.
November 16, 2011 at 12:12 am #114877I will tell you one thing… That is a good play to put your name and address on your cameras. Add that to my winter project list for sure. The situation is a bummer but not a complete loss , good luck getting to the bottom of it.
November 16, 2011 at 4:12 am #114889From my experiences with trespassers my thoughts are in line with Farmboy and Prieser. Someone was somewhere they shouldn’t have been. Took the card because they either knew they were on it, or weren’t positive they were not on it. Probably took the camera itself to make sure there was no internal storage. Returned the camera cause they either know you personally, actually felt some what guilty about their actions, had the epiphany that “hey, I just committed a chargeable crime,” or a combination there of. I would be upset as you are; however, from all the trail camera/trespasser stories I have experienced/heard, yours has a very good ending.
Something to think about: You mentioned locking up all your cameras. I think thats a good idea. Unfortunately, those who know enough about cameras to clear the evidence are most likely the same people who are not going to just give up when they see a tin box or padlock. I have both friends and co-workers who have found their theft proof camera boxes in absolute shambles. I don’t know if there is a definite answer, I just wish all these clowns would get caught red-handed. The people who I have caught red-handed are the only ones I have never had repeat problems with…..
