Can’t get new shotgun because of a wait

Had a savage 220f on layaway for 8 weeks now. Just went in today to pick it up and was told I was put on a wait when they ran my check. This irritates the hell out of me, as I have nothing on my backgroung. I had planned on taking it to the range tomorrow and now I can’t do that. I think the government is really screwed up sometimes.
The last time I bought a shotgun, they put me on a wait too!

Welcome to IDO!! I haven’t had to wait when buying a gun before. How long do you have to wait?

Every firearm I’ve purchased in Mn I’ve been put on wait also.

I have bought a bunch of guns (rifle and shotguns) without any wait. I thought the only wait was if you wanted to purchase a handgun?

It may be that your name is similar/the same as a felon and they need to double check, or it may be that the government really sucks at doing anything

This is a very common situation. I have a very clean record aside from a couple of traffic tickets over 20 years. I am delayed every time I buy a new gun. It was explained to me that if you have a similar name with a not so nice guy you may be delayed until they make sure that you are not him. I have a friend who is a LEO and he ran my name and sure enough there is a guy in St. Paul with the same name and a record that goes on forever. I think I am pretty safe to assume that is the reason for the delay every time.

I am sure there are many other reasons too. It might make you feel a little better to know that this delay is never to long. A few times they have called me before I got home from the store to tell me I am good to go. I would not hurt to call and check it out often.

I think it is a small price to pay to make sure guns are being sold to the right people. I just blow it off now after many delays. You will have your gun soon and it will all be a distant memory. Good luck with the new gun!

Thanks for explaining that. It make you feel like you are a felon or something. I was told 20 minutes to 2 days Guess I can order the scope rings while I wait

One good thing about C&C permit. No waiting long or short guns.

Do you guys who get hit with a wait have a permit to purchase? Would that help the situation?

I believe even with a CC permit the Background check still needs to be called in. I know When I last worked at a gun retailer it had to be anyway – Not sure if that changed or not.
