I’ve said it a hundred times, but if it wasn’t for IDO, I wouldn’t know 98% of my friends in Mn. It all started back in 2001 when a few of us, some of the original message board geeks, got together on Pool 3 for some fishing. Well, in the past 10 years the hunting side was birthed and it’s influence on my life continues to amaze me.

This fall I was introduced to Todders. Todd is an amazing man with a passion I’ve witnessed in very few people in my life. He goes hard, his passion for whitetails is evident immediately. Well, I spent a day in early September with him and knew instantly we were going to be friends. Todd, I can’t wait for spring to get down and dirty with the food plots!! How was I introduced to Todd?

This past week I got a PM early one morning. When I opened it, I was really surprised to read the offer. Bob Bergeson had offered to let me come spend the weekend with him in northern Mn at his land. Well, no way was I going to pass a chance to spend time with a guy like Bob who is so experienced with whitetails and food plots. Little did I know whitetails are just one thing he knows a ton about. Thanks for a great hunt last night Bob. It was absolutely perfect. I don’t think I mentioned it, but that was the first time I’ve ever hunted deer in Mn. I also have to thank Bob for introducing me to Todd!

I don’t think a person can ever have too many friends, especially when it comes to quality individuals like these guys. I’m proud to say I’ve got two new friends. It was fun shooting the bows on Saturday with Bob, Todd & Scotty. Michelle, I’ll get that $20.00 next time.

I also need to thank IDO for the medium that has helped make Mn my new home. It truly is the members here that make this site what it is. And it is also those same members that have had a profound effect on my life.

I feel the same Kooty. Tom Gursky and his friend Mike came down two years ago to hunt deer. Tom ended up scoring an 11 pointer, not a huge buck but with just a few days of being able to hunt he did pretty well considering, then they both had to go back to Iron Mountain Michigan. Mike came down again later in the season and got a better taste of the deer here. Hes a trophy hunter and didn’t get to pull back on anything but almost had the chance at a 170″er but too far out of decent bow range and also seen one he said was over 200″ on another trip down that same year. He came down again last year and shotguned and got a double drop tine buck that was decent, one drop was bigger then the other but still a decent deer.

I just got a call from him about a week ago that hes coming down again about mid October and this time hes bringing his other half with him. Hes not sure if hes going to hunt here this season but I don’t think Id have to talk to hard to get him to come down for a few days. He wants me to meet his other half and were going out to eat and shoot the bull for awhile.

A yonger guy by the name of Todd moved here from Iron Mountain a year ago that lived just a few blocks from Mike and is still getting used to the area and in Mikes last call asked me if I’d take him and show him a few spots to bow hunt so I did. I only had time that night to show him some good public hunting about 15 minutes out of town just south of me so thats all we got done. But I did say I know of another couple areas, one close by my cousin Tims house. Tim just got done seeing a buck close to the 200″ mark right at the bottom of his driveway, so I’m taking Todd up to that area and too also check out a couple other farms close by. He looks like a friend maker so when he finds a couple farms to hunt he will be able to go back and hunt again. Todds a nice guy and I know we’ll make friends, it sounds like its in the quiver, so I’m going out bowhunting with him a few times and we’ll see what we can rattle up or scare out of the woods.

Like you said It pays in new friends when you simply talk to others and invite them to come over and visit, what else is there to do? I’ve now got a good lead on a decent bow/bear hunt when I want to go plus a few other fringe benifits in Michigan. Ya I’m glad I’m also a member of IDO too and it don’t hurt to have a few friends around.

Kooty, I couldn’t agree with you more on this. The quality of people that are active on IDO, (both fishing & hunting) are second to none! I’ve been a very active member of a number of other sites for that last 15 years. The more time that passes, I find that I spend the vast majority of my time right here. Its fun to share our knowledge and experiences when you have people that equally contribute, share, and appreciate it!

Kooty, Thanks for the good times this weekend I couldn’t agree more with you when it comes to meeting so many
good quality people. When it comes to dedication Todd H. is second to none… I have been very fortunate to have spent time with his Mom, Dad and His brother Scotty and I can’t forget Rachel(She is one heck of a cook)
Like you said the majority of my friends are people that were introduced to me through Ido Brad,Kooty,Joel…I can’t thank you enough for the giving me opportunity to not only meet all of these new people but also be a part of such a close knit community It seems that every time I turn around I get to meet some one new, Pat&Lori, Jason R, Little G. Craig D. Johnny P. Dan Pearson, Hook and finger, Pool 5 hunter, Big G, Travis E, Ricco G, Tom L, and probably many more that I have forgotten to mention
We are working on a few Ideas that should really make The IDO hunting side a Kick site
By the way Kooty… You should have hunted Sunday morning.
I pulled the card in front of your stand… there were 2 standing there waiting for you at 9:30 am

By the way, my new favorite pastime is to test my cameras out when having company over for Beverages

Most of my friends think I must be a creep when I want to “meet some guy off the Internet”, but they just don’t get it! I heard Bob B explain ido the best when he called it a community. Thanks for the kind words Kooty and hopefully we can fill your freezer with some MN veni this year! Hope to meet many more of you in the future and can’t wait to hear the stories and reports in the next month and a half.

I think your a creep because ever since I mentioned this site you would rather sit in a tree than go fishing. I never got to see the video of you shooting that deer either.

Feeling all warm and fuzzy around here today . I started typing before seeing your post Bob but thank you. Without ido it would take twice as much money and effort to do half as much work in the woods. There is so much knowledge on here and so many people that love to share it, it really is the most valuable tool I have ever had !

Heh Dan, how’s your sick cat? Hope everything is ok

    Bob:

This is probably your best post ever. Not only are you too kind, but you posted spy photos of Kooty during story-hour(s)! That said, I am so afraid of what trail camera pics of me you might have.

In all seriousness, just like any community, it is what you make it. Thank YOU, and all others for making this a great place to learn, share, and make memories with friends – new and old. I couldn’t agree more with your sentiments, and always look forward to this part of the hunt, as much as any other.

Great post Kooty and I agree with everyone above! The more you put into this site, the more friendships you will have. I lurked for over a year before I joined. Throughout the years I’ve had some great friends but if we don’t share something in common, it seems as though we drift apart. Maybe some of you can relate to what I mean. That’s what is so great about IDO – the passion we share for the outdoors and this site giving us the opportunity to share information keeps us connected and out of that lifetime friendships are created.
