Great report, Bret. I wasn’t having any luck in the big water south of Stillwater either so I moved back upstream and having been pulling channels from water 12′ to 8′ deep. The deep water fish are hard to find but the skinny water bite is pretty good and the fish are hammering cut sucker.
I’m hoping the big water bite will turn on as the shad show up with the warmer water temps.

Good hunting. Keep your reports coming they help us all find the good bite.

To that’s how a person “levitates” a catfish! Does he bend spoons too?!

As alway, nice report cousin Bret!

Great report Buddy Bret Largemouth doesn’t look too impressed with his cat though did you have him out past his bedtime or should he just go back to bass fishin’? looks like it was a great night for JP

    Mr. Clark,

Thanks again for a good night on the water. This is the first cat trip that has produced for me.

As Bret stated, the fishing trip started around 5:00 PM as we headed out to find a little cut bait. Once I got direction from Bret on how to hook a few gills, the night only got better. The gills I picked up were nice size.

Once we started floating, thing were a little slow at first. Largemouth started the float with a snot rocket and the first kitty (small)

As we continued our float, Mr. Clark tied into a nice cat. The sun was still up and we had some onlooks watching to see what he had hooked into.

From then on, there was a lot of action for both boats. Another great night on the river with friend. Ended the evening with a few eater for my old neighbor guy.

Thanks for the trip Mr. Clark, next time Largemouth can go with me, well maybe.

    BrianK,
Levitate, heck I didn’t even have a pole in the boat. I just wave my hands over the water and these fish jump into my boat. This was the first one and I had trouble catching him as he leaped in.

Much more productive than my cat outing Friday on pool 9 at the damn. Didn’t have a hit in 2 hours so I packed it up.
But Saturday did produce a few about 7-8 o’clock. But they wern’t cats, only a few 25-35″ Northers.
One hit my boys crank, the others took a large lump of crawlers on a three-way.

Phishook, if the cats won’t come to you…you need to go to the cats. Read up on Bret and Steve’s drifting.

    It works…very well!

    Bret

This is probably a dumb question but when you make the drift are you drifting from below one wing dam to the next or go you drift right over the top of them?

    Thanks

I’m seeing this.lol I’ll do the reading, but finding someone to spend a night on the river is hard to find in the ‘park’. Too many fish from to dusk going after gills, crappie, and walleye. Night comes and it’s lights out.

I never drift over the top of wing dams.

I like to drift past the tips along the channel edge.

I should add, there are times I will use the trolling motor to cover the face or backside of a wing dam too. For the most part though the bigger fish will be hanging right on the tips.

Yes it does, during daylight hours I like to look in areas such as scour holes behind wing dams or cut banks on outside bends of a channel where you are more likely to find deeper water.

Yes we are but, I’m not done playing in the winter months yet

Summer will get here soon enough, and then the kitty call will come out and be put to use on the open water
As long as we have to have summer I sure hope it is a little better than the summer of 2009. Water temps stayed cool keeping some of the bigger channels from moving out into the main channel to escape the heat or look for stronger flow.

I’d rather be catching cats out of the main channel than side chutes any day

If you need a cat fix sooner than summer, I usually have a good bite going in April. I am sure we could work something out.
