But i do plan on mowing some of the plot with this mower. LOL

Ok, long story short. lawn mowers old, love it tho, zero turn with the deck out front. cant buy a new deck and this one was shot. im rebuilding it, ive sand blasted all the parts, ordered new spindles and bearings, took off the bearing housings and blasted and painted them (blue for some reason LOL) this thing will be a tank when im done.

my question to anyone who may know, look at the front, it slopes away from the blades the grass is discharged along the front, should i put a pc in front of the blades so the grass has an easier route to travel from the furthest blade out to the discharge side? or dont you think it matters?

here is what im thinking, just free handed this but you will get the idea.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks

I don’t have any advice because I’m mostly an idiot when it comes to engineering stuff. However, I really admire you DIY guys!!!

I see you have the high lift blades, Thats good, I think if you open that area up you may lose vacuum. The spinning high lift blades create a vacuum that lifts the grass up and holds it in place while the blade cuts it off. Just my .02
Nice job looks good the way it is.

i see where your going with that but wouldnt i be creating more vacuum if i put a barrier in the front of the blades the same depth as the deck? i would be closing it off to the nose section thats angled away from the blades. like i said, im no expert in building lawn mower decks, just that all the newer models out have a flat front not an angled one.

I can see where adding it across the section that has the steep angle in the front could benefit you. I don’t know if you really gain anything by running the piece all the way across the front of the deck. The outside 2 blades appear to be pretty close to the outer wall already?

Who says you can’t put a discharge at both ends, it may keep it from clogging and if your mowing heavier weeds would probably be better, cut it and discharge it so it doesn’t clog. Everything else looks good and I like the blade wells where the blades spin, nice job!

Your right I was in a hurry and thought you were going to cut the front open That piece in front would definitely be your best option
