Flavoring for mineral licks?

I found that the local CO-OP mixes mineral for lick sites. 200 lbs for about $75 and it is based on the Antler King ratios. They told me that for an extra $10 they could add either a caramel or molasses flavor. Would the flavor make a difference, and if so which one? Thanks in advance!

Did you ask them what the percentage of salt was in thier lick? At $75.00 for 200 pounds it has to be HIGH!

I say the opposite 200 lbs for $75 bucks is cheap but I doubt it will do anything for your deer except make them thirsty

I would look strongly at a product made specifically for deer. I know my days of buying trace mineral from the co-op are over.

200 lb for 75 bucks does sound way cheap, you wouldnt be able to get a quality mineral for even half that. id be a little concerned that its mostly salt as well, like the old saying goes, ya get what ya pay for. the one thing ive learned in the past couple of years is that there are many mineral companies out there (seems like a new one every day) but alot of them (not all) add alot of salt, yes the deer may love it but are they getting everything they need?
the next thing i would ask and i know this is early but do you plan on hunting over this site? 200 lbs should last you along time and if you add molasis or anything else it goes from a just a mineral to an attractant, illegal to hunt over or even be a short distance from in some states.

Thanks for the replies guys! They did briefly show me what exactly they put in it. I will have to take a closer look, and maybe even post back here what it contains. I do plan to hunt fairly close to this spot, but according to the local Warden who I know personally it is only considered a bait if he can visually measure it. We are allowed to bait here(2 gallons/40acres I believe), at least at this point. Still wondering if the flavoring is a good idea???

    Thanks,

The flavoring would be a great attractant. If you are just starting the mineral sites I would say use the flavoring to help the deer find the site. After that maybe not and just load it up with what is healthy for the deer
