I’ve watched all the episodes. It’s kind of a roller coaster. I’m all for catching poachers and nearly became a DNR officer myself. I opted for another route in life but wildlife and natural resources are near and dear to my heart. Unfortunately this show doesn’t depict the officers or the hunters in a very good way.
The offers are all hamming it up for the camera and showing how inept they are at their job. At times they are doing a great job, but they sure do some weak moves to try and entrap people. On the flip side I don’t like how the show portrays “hunters” all as poachers and especially hound hunters. It’s ridiculous how they talk like every hound hunter is a poacher. They are taking the “guilty until proven innocent” approach and I don’t think that is a healthy approach and doesn’t build good relationships with the public.
Being a hound hunter myself I spend times on hound hunting boards and many of these officers and the hunters on the show are well known. It’s quite amusing to hear the other side of the story and hear what actually happens that the public doesn’t see. Some of the hunters are in fact well know poachers; some of them aren’t but were portrayed as poachers. It’s been disheartening to hear how some of the guys that have been legally hunting for year are now being harassed by the public because they assume they are poachers now because of the way they were portrayed on the show. I could go on and on, but it’s the usually “Hollywood” approach of making TV for ratings.
