What are the thoughts on a hunt/trip swap like on the fishing side of the house. I do a heck of a lot of trapping and predator hunting. Even though I guide, I’m always open to get out to do some form of hunting that I don’t get to do around here. I’ve had great success (learning experiences) by trading off an afternoon with someone…..your thoughts?

This has been discussed here before… I think alot of it happens already… I know I have had numerous offers and have hooked up with other memebrs/staff for a few hunts already… but there is just something a little different about meeting a guy to go to a public lake to fish and inviting a stranger to your land/home and especially one toting a firearm…

its not a matter of toting a firearm…its when his/her cargo pants are stuffed with beer in every pocket and out comes the flask from his coat….

I know there is a lot of variables to consider. And each person needs to be comfortable with the activities of which they will take part in. But for those that want to throw a public invite out there…

It’s a great idea and can work in some cases. But as stated there all kind of people and you never really know what people are like. I constantly have people asking to ride along with me when they find out I run hounds on coyotes. I’ve taken people on occasion but it doesn’t happen a lot. The people that I trust to take with end up having conflicting schedules or blah blah blah. I’ve got plenty of people that I’ve don’t really know that want to go. But everyone has different ideas and the last think I need is to be 30 miles from home with a guy in my truck that isn’t on the same page as me. Personally I like having another person in the truck to help with dogs, radios and keeping and eye on things. But it’s not always something you want to do with a guy you’ve never met.

I also think it is a great idea. I have met some great people on the internet, and some who have the most similar dispositions as me. Right now the best hunting partner I have I met on bowsite about 4 years ago. When it comes to hunting, other than age, we could be twins. Anywho..guess what I’m trying to say is if you have something in mind, throw it out there, and see what happens. Just keep in mind, some states (a lot of the western states) don’t allow hunt trading/bartering etc.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention again Randy and ideas from our members are always welcomed and appreciated. We’ve thought about it, but we’re not sure if a separate trip swap forum is necessary. If you want to trade some type of a hunt, feel free to post it on the site and we think it can still be effective. If we see a lot of these showing up and there’s good interest, then we would consider making it a separate forum.

Agree, by all means, throw it out there…. I just don’t know that it’s a good idea to have a site promoted forum ? If and when a trip goes south, it won’t drag IDO with it… I am constantly getting PM’s with invites and such, this after chatting and even meeting some of the fine folks from IDO. A good way to network, is the shoots that IDO sponsors every year at a archery club, also I met alot of members at the GOLD Member party last year.. talk about a room full of people who share the same passion
