First off, I don’t claim to know anything about WI politics. ‘Ell, I can hardly keep up with our little town of 1000.

The Google ad saying “Walker For Sportsmen. Fix the DNR, Manage the Deer Herd See Scott Walker’s Plan” Click on Google ad to go to his web site…caught my eye.

I don’t recall a time when “Fixing the DNR” has ever been a platform in a state race before. Stating “the DNR works for us and not the other way around” makes it sound like it’s really messed up over there.

If it is, is this because of Doyle or the heads of the DNR?

Any insight from you WI folk?

All I know is they slaughtered the deer herd over the past 20 years and “accidentally” allowed the bear population to increase to a point I’m sure they dont want but I like.

Find out who’s pocket is getting lined by insurance lobbyists and that is who inflates the population numbers & wants all the deer gone in WI… it’s the same in MN…

I’m thinking the head of the DNR is an appointed position, so they would kind of be one and the same.

There are a lot of people that are complaining to anyone and everyone about how they didn’t see any deer last year because the DNR overstates the deer herd numbers.

Funny thing is, most of the people complaining are the same ones that shot 10 does each of the previous few years because the DNR would give them as many tags as they wanted.

You can’t use the “if it hops it drops” or “if its brown its down” mentality and then complain when the numbers are low.

I’ve noticed this for many years in both Wi and Mn. and I did not contribute to the problem. I would rather see a lot of deer and be almost assured of a doe the random years I got a tag than be allowed to shoot one every year but rarely get the opportunity.

The deer herd was just fine before TT(Tommy Thompson) made the DNR Secretary position an appointed one, no idea why. Just ask George Meyer our last one appointed by the Conservation Congress. Not sure the exact numbers but we had like 3 over 30 years and now 3 or 4 over 6 years. The current one came from the corrections department not the DNR. That makes sense to who? Apparently Jim Doyle. So both parties contributed to the problem. It’s not a problem of which party, it’s a problem of which party is in power at the time. It should at least be someone with wildlife/conservation/environmental background and preferrably someone who’s at least held a fishing rod/gun or bow in their lifetime (not just for a photo op.)

So the main problem is the hunters aren’t happy?

I know WI residents value deer season right below Christmas, so I can see why this would be a platform.

There’s no issues with fishing? Besides asian carp and the goofy border water rules (which is MN’s problem as much as WI’s)
