Took my family back to SD this weekend. Grandpa and Grandma sure love having the grandkids around. So much, that dad ordered his 250 chickens accordingly so they would still be yellow when the kids arrived.
I was also blessed to spend an evening over a great home grown meal with my grandparents. Growing up, it’s funny how we take things for granted. I’m sure my kids won’t appreciate this time for many years, but my Grandpa left that night full of smiles. He and my 5 year old really hit it off. You couldn’t get a word in edge wise if you wanted to. When he pulled out his top denture for her(one of his old favorites), Jocelyn about lost it laughing so hard. We also got a great lesson on our family history. My Grandma Rita has been putting together a scrapbook of all the good and bad times our family has endured since the late 1800’s. Seeing pictures from 1890 sure stirred up some thoughts in my head. Can you imagine how much tougher those people were than us??
I worked my tail off this weekend, but it was by far one of the best I’ve ever had. Dad and I spent a lot of time together working and ribbing each other. The kids got to see how hard Grandma works on canning the garden items. It’s a bit of a step back in time for me and I hope I can spend many more weekends like this now that I’ve learned to appreciate it a bit more.
