That cougar was spotted in Eau Claire County on Dec. 27, and later showed up on a game camera in Clark County and was tracked all the way to Price and Bayfield counties, with DNA and other evidence confirming it was the same cougar.
I would like to see thie dna and “other evidence” Is this the same one as the one in downsville, durand and stillwater? Not saying that this isnt true, but I just hate how the dnr makes it seems like there is only 1 cougar in the entire tri state area.
Just like the DNR to downplay it–otherwise they’d have to do something about it.
Friend of mine was a Sheriff deputy in Price County in ’96, they saw cougars all the time and his DNR buddies told him “unoffically, WI has a cougar population, offically, WI does not have a cougar population”. From what he was told, if the DNR admitted to having a population, they’d have to manage it accordingly–go figure.
Sadly, the “tree huggers” are winning on this front, both with wolves and cougars. The South Dakota elk herd is being severely diminished due to cats. They have a hunting season, but they are only killing about 15% of the 20% population increase each year. Anytime the GF&P tries to up the quota, lawsuits start flying. It’s amazing.
after reading the article all I got out of it as usual when wolves or cat are spotted is BLA BLA BLA!!!!!!! go figure Hopefully the public (hunters farmers ect) will take care of the problem even though there is no problem accoding to some folks. I for one would hate to see someone’s kid or pets/animals get killed because of this.
According to the article they pose NO THREAT to people or pets and are just PASSING THROUGH! I can tell you one thing, if I’m out in my yard with my dog or kids, there will be something PASSING THROUGH that cat!

Only good cat is a dead cat.

X2
The DNR will do NOTHING about the cougars here in WI…I live in Pierce county, and both my grandfathers own farms. They have seen cougars on their properties for years, but everytime they try to report it to the DNR, they say its just a bobcat, or even better, one called it a badger. A neighboring farmer got a pic of it by a fencepost that sticks out of the groung 3 feet…turned it in, and he DNR said it was a bobcat and would not return the photo…wonder why?? As stated before, they just don’t want to do anything about it. But the 30-06 in the barn sure will
Do they really think we as hunters are all stupid and don’t know the difference?
Its unbelievable! And the farmer who got the pic has hunted them out west for 20 years!!! Unreal…sometimes I think its more likely that sasquatch will be recognized as being in Wisconsin before cougars
25 years ago, i know a guy who had the dnr show up at his door. they where asking him to bring his dogs up to try to tree a cat. they said there is no cat but can you come and see if you can tree one. hmmm. it killed a cow and claw up a couple more. he didn’t go but the cat was killed.(the one that was not there). so when the dnr say there not there, there’s more than you think.
by the way the guy i’m talking about was my dad and i was 8 years old. i was sitting at the table when they where talking about it.
