IDO is sad to report that fellow IDO Gold Member – Jason Cerri “Cerri” suddenly passed away at his home on Wed, July 7th. He will be deeply missed and our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to his family, his friends and his son Dominic. Here’s a copy of the obituary.

BYRON — Jason M. Cerri, 35, of Byron, Minn., died Wednesday, July 7, 2010.

Jason Mark Cerri was born Jan. 20, 1975, in Springfield, Mass., to Reno and Judi (Boyer) Cerri, Jr. He grew up in East Longmeadow, Mass., and attended EL Schools until his sophomore year. He attended Bethany Assembly of God Church, Agawam, Mass., and was an avid Royal Ranger and loved the youth group there.

In 1990, Jason moved to Byron with his family. He attended Rochester Assembly of God Church and was active in the youth group and as a LT Commander in the Royal Rangers. He graduated from Byron High School in 1993 and lettered in football and basketball. He attended Evangel College in Springfield, Mo., for two years. He married Petrine Kerkowski on April 6, 2003, and they later divorced. He started and ran his own business, All Star Underground. He was known for his work with a no-nonsense attitude and a keen eye for quality work.

Jason loved everything outdoors: fishing, camping, hiking, hunting, especially his newest adventure of bear hunting with his buddy Jason R. He harvested his biggest buck ever this past fall, a 170+ class 11-point buck, which gave him great pleasure. But his fondest love was his little boy, Dominic. They were inseparable and Dominic was building the same loves for the outdoors that his dad had. Everywhere Jason would go, Dominic was close behind, asking questions, always wondering why. And Jason was always there to patiently provide the best answer he could.

Jason was known by all as a good friend, he was always willing to help. And many knew that and called on him often for whatever the need.

Jason will be sorely missed by his parents, Reno and Judi Cerri, Jr. of Byron; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennie and Jason Ochocki of Byron; his three nephews, Jake, Dylan, and Ryan Ochocki; his niece, Joey (JoJo) Ockocki; his grandparents, Reno and Vera Cerri, Sr. of Suffield, Conn.; cousins, uncle and aunts, and many many friends; but most of all, by his son, Dominic.

Jason loved the Lord with all his heart, he is in the presence of Jesus with no more suffering or pain.

A funeral service will be Monday, July 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. the Assembly of God Church, 4240 — 18th Ave NW, Rochester. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery.

A visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the church, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dominic Cerri Education Fund at Think Mutual Bank, PO Box 7437, Rochester, Minn., 55903-9894.

Last fall Jason harvested this magnificent 10 point buck and posted the following story here on IDO. Thank you Jason for sharing your last deer hunt with us. You will be deeply missed.

I had not hunted this area in 15 yrs but I knew ” others” who had taken nice deer. So here is the story so grab a glass and sit back. I climb into stand at 5:15 and am very hesitant about the hunt. 5:30 and I see a deer and only because the moon lite could I see it and start to feel more confident. 6:30 I spot a few deer on top of the hill about 200 yrds out through the woods. I sit till 6:45 and say heck I will be legal by the time they strol in so I began grunting and holly grease stripe if a shooter 6 doesnt come flying down the hill right at me. I look up the hill and see a buck tearing up a doe and decide to pass on the 6 and wait. As I waited and watched this buck have his way with the other 2 doe, I grunt in a dink 4 pointer. 7:00 Im waiting and they all come into the woods about 100 yrds out and hang out in heavy brush. 7:25 2 doe roll out of the brush and come out at 60 yrds then a dink with the big boy snorting him off as the big boy walks in, let the shaking begin thank god for shooting rails. I drop him at 60 yrds never to stand again. pic. 1 The big boy and his 280 pound assasin ( ME ). pic 2 Trail cam from neighbor east of us about 1/2 mile. pic 3 first pic I took still tweeking. pic 4 The guest of honor attending deer camp with a shed of his from 2 yrs ago ( thanks Hovey ). pic 5 The redneck tailgate photo that realy ticks GMAN off. HAHAHA bud

168 inch 214 pounds what a hunt, but as we sit in our stands and hunt this year just remember those guys fighting for our freedoms and rights across the big pond who cant be in the woods this year to enjoy taking a great buck or sleeping at home in his bed.

I recognize that pointing arm….I met Cerri at the Gold Member Buck Party in January… we talked like we knew each other for years. Being hunters, I think we all have a natural way about us, to be open and true. Cerri was that and I feel better for having met him. I am sure he will be deeply missed, but I am quite sure, he made his mark in this world, while he was here. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. RIP Cerri.

If you knew Jason, you liked him, plain and simple. He was bigger than he seemed with his heart and attitude. He will be missed. To all the Cerri’s my deepest condolences.

Like G said, Jason was a guy you could joke with as if you’d known him your whole life. At the turkey banquet, we spent the night battling it out on the silent auction until he told me he’d hunt me down in my sleep if I bid it up one more time!

Those photos bring back some good memories, and also make me think of the ones he left behind. Condolences esp. to his young son and to his good friend Jason, whom I know will miss him for many hunting seasons to come.

I also had the honor to meet Jason on a couple of occasions, one at our home and the other at the Cannon Falls Turkey Banquet. (See pictures above.) You could tell by speaking with him how much he loved his son and the outdoors.

Brad and I were able to stop by his memorial service yesterday and meet his parents and sister and see Dominic, definitely a “mini” version of his dad! You could see by the video tribute and pictures of Jason just how much he treasured his family and friends and his passion for the outdoors. He will me missed…

I too had the great privilege of meeting Jason at the Buck Party. And as stated about he was truly “one of the guys” even though I had just met him. My prayers go out to his family and friends as they go through this difficult time.

I feel honored and privileged to have met Jason a couple of times before he passed away. As many of you know, a hunter who shares the same passion as yourself easily becomes your good friend. This was certainly the case with Jason. Seeing his 6 year old son -Dominic yesterday was very emotional for me. I can’t imagine going through life without a father and especially one that loved his son so much and was such a big part of his son’s life. Tina and I also got a chance to speak with Jason’s father and he shared with us his love for Jason and how proud he was of him. He talked about carrying Jason on his shoulders at age 4 when they went pheasant hunting and the trips they made together up at the Boundary Waters. Those shared memories will be forever etched in his memory. It reminds all of us to cherish life and make the most out of our time together.

It was also easy to see the special bond between Jason Cerri and Jason Ramthun (GMAN) by looking at all of the old photos of them together that were displayed at the memorial service and by all of the hugs that Jason R. received. So sorry for your loss GMAN and my heartfelt condolences goes out to you, to the entire Cerri family and to all of Jason’s friends that he touched along the way.

Please take a moment this fall when sitting in your deer stand or hunting in the field and think about Jason Cerri and about the gift of life – I know I will.

I don’t think anyone who met him at the gold members party could have said it better. He got me a few beers there.

My heartfelt condolences for everyone in Jason’s family, especially his young son. I like so many others instantly hit it off with Jason after our first meeting. I think that says so much about how kind of a soul he really is. Rest in peace Jason!!

I echo this statement. It is so tragic to lose a great person as he is being described, but for Dominic to have lost his father is such a bummer!!! Let’s hope that Dominic’s love for the outdoors passed on to him by his father continues Cerri’s legacy for the outdoors!!!

GMAN, I don’t know you, but please accept my condolences at the loss of your friend.

    Mark
