I got a call from my father inlaw on Wednesday and as of this morning we are officially booked and heading up to Northwestern Alberta for an archery Moose and black bear hunt in six weeks. I am stoked!!!!! Two black bear tags and a bull moose and all with stick and string. Should be an adventure.

It was pretty much a life goal of mine to go moose hunting, but never thought it would happen this quickly. I’ve got a lot of shooting and planning to do. We plan on making thetrek with the truck and pull a chest freezer on a trailer with a generator. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips. I am not worried about being allowing into Canada as I go up there on business quite often, I’m concerned about how to make the correct declarations and how much hassle it’ll be to bring meat and trophies back across the border.

Congrats! Trip of a lifetime for sure…

Don’t worry about bringing critters back, US agents will ask if you were successfull then ask you to fill out some forms and your good to go. That’s been my experience coming back into the US.

Good luck and take lot of pictures.

Shouldn’t have any issues with trophys, unless it is a wolf. For the meat, I am not sure, as I have never brought any back. Probably have to processed and not quartered… If you don’t mind, can you say what this trip is running, for tags and outfitter ??? I am looing at Moose hunts also, they are in the $6K range and do not include 2 Bear…. No problem if you don’t want to say Good luck and I envy you

The bear and deer meat I’ve crossed with was quartered in a cooler, no probs there.

One thing you might want to look into is if the skull plate has to be detached on the moose. I remember a while back there was an issue crossing with cervids.

I sent you some details on the hunt Big G.

I was concerned about the skull as well. I guess I have to shoot something before it’s really an issue, but would probably be good to figure it out ahead of time.
