    Hey Chad,

Glad you got that Sturgeon. How was your walleye fishing. My guess would be your share of eater fish up there???? Funny how it seems we only measure fish now, and rarely put them on the scale. I would guess that a 51 inch Sturgeon would go around 30LBs??? I’m not sure if I’ve ever put a scale to those fresh waters sharks. Anyways’s Great fish Chad!

From what I have seen – the 50 inchers were around 25 lbs…… but remember that the ones I weighed were males. A fat female may weigh a lot more. Usually those leaner 50″ and less fish were males. It seemed like the 50 inch mark was when they started really putting the weight on……when they got much over 50″, they started getting heavy.

A 51″ Sturgeon is about equal in weight to the size of a rock it would take to shear off the skag from a 50 HP Honda outboard.

Thanks for the info. We did catch some 15-16 inch Walleye’s nothing big. I did hit a rock and shear my skeg off, anyone done this before and have any advice.??

    Hey Midnight,

Lucky it was just your skeg. Ripped off my lower unit on my big guide boat last year. GRRRRR! Those darn springtime crappies… Make you go place you likely shouldn’t. Well just a skeg is a pretty easy deal. They will just fabricate you a new one sand it down and repaint. Looks good as new. Trust me I speak with some experience on that. I actually have my lower unit from my V8 Mercruiser in a rock pile on the side of my driveway! LOL! Yep the Rainy river is a bit lower than last fall, so motor eating chunks of granite are a little easier to locate with lower units these days. Explore with caution or the kicker motor boys!
