Good Bye my Friend.

Regardless of how “successful” the upcoming waterfowl season will be. It will be a lonely one.

Not that I am big on religion, but I’ve always liked this poem.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

    Good Bye Bear!

It brings a tear to my eye every time I read it!!! My older one is now pushing 11. I hope it will be a long time, but I know everyday is special with her now. Ruger, sorry for your loss!!!

    Sorry to hear it Ruger,

I too am fond of that poem, but dread the day when it means something. Just remember Bear will still be there with you this Fall in Spirit and watching you and the sky just like Bear always has. Just remember Bear is in a better place free of pain and retrieveing ducks from dawn to dusk.

Sorry to hear of your loss Ruger.

Sorry about your loss. I had to put my yellow lab down last October; she was 10 yrs old. It is so damn difficult to say goodbye – my prayers are with you and Bear.

It is a tough thing, but guessing none of us would ever trade the time we had….

i Agree. that really hit home. if there was every anything i could take back and have back the it would be my dogs. i am sure most of you guys would say the same. the hardest thing i have ever done was walking up to the road with a wheel-barrel and blanket in my hands. retrieving my one true friend. through good times and bad they where always there for you. always there to cheer you up. when i look back apon that day. i think of what would have happened if this and if that. but then i remember. now they are in a better place. they are watching over me. with me everyday.

Sorry for your loss Ruger. Great poem.

I had a black lab named Bear from the age of 5 to 16. Great childhood buddy. Nice pics – thanks for posting them.
