So finaly got a hold of my land owner to talk about turkey hunting after calling for a month. I was lucky to get drawn for season D. The guy said that he already has two guys hunting that season. Been hunting there for 5yrs. If would have called him 10min earlier I’d be set. So I called the DNR and they said I had to wait for the second round for surplus permits to go on sale march 22. Does anyone know how often and were I find the number of permits left after yesterdays damage to the numbers? I hope I can get lucky and get one.

Is the spot big enough to hold both of you the same weekend? I don’t know that I would be bashing a land owner that has let you hunt for 5 years… I know it sucks but explain to him in your next conversation how the application process works. He probly thought it was no big deal and didn’t know how it would affect your turkey hunt..

If the landowner is like my dad and I, we’ll let people that help us out on the farm hunt our place before anyone else. Both of us hate turkeys, so it’s not really on the top of the priority list of who gets what season. I agree with Walleyebuster, it’s not always wise to bite the hand that feeds you.

It was hard to hear I miss my season by 10 min. He’s is a great guy we give him a little cash and a thank you card every year. But I may have to offer help on the farm.

Shouldn’t you be eating Turkey ????

Just a friendly tip… put a bug in your landowners ear, every once in awhile… don’t wait until draws or the season are upon you. Keeps you foremost in their mind. Athough 10 minutes does bite

UUUMMM…You could always do it the old fashioned way…Knock on some doors! I love talking with new farmers that I have never met. If you knock on 10 doors I bet you 3 of them would get you on their land! RR

Agree. Changing seasons is not your only option.

Knocking on some new doors might also get you a new place to bowhunt for deer in the fall after they see and find out who you are, its worth a try anyway. I’ve run into some really nice places to hunt both seasons just by knocking on doors and turkeys do pull young corn shoots from the ground after they have just come up.
