Teen Accused Of Shooting Horse With Arrows

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — Fayette County Sheriff’s Office officials arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a horse that had been shot with arrows.

Police arrested Jeremy Ryan Richardson, 17, of Fayette County on Thursday.

Authorities said Richardson shot the horse, named Misty, with a compound bow on Bankstown Road in south Fayette County on Sunday.

Misty was standing near a fence on her owner’s farm when a neighbor driving by noticed she had arrows stuck in her.

“It was a terrible act of cruelty,” said Misty’s owner, Nancy Padovano. “Somebody surrounded her and just hit her with all the ammo they must’ve had.”

One arrow went straight though the mare’s neck. Another arrow lodged in her spine and a third came to rest in the side of her head.

Richardson was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office investigators also charged Richardson with a number of Georgia game and fish violations, which are not related to the horse shooting.

Richardson was charged with six counts of failure to record deer harvest when he allegedly unlawfully killed deer and failed to report them to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

He was also charged with six counts of unlawful possession of or use of wildlife when he allegedly illegally possessed deer that had not been reported to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, one count of hunting deer at night when he allegedly shot and killed a deer on West Kelly Lake Drive in Fayette County and one count of hunting deer over bait when he allegedly killed a deer on Kelly Lake Drive using the assistance of a deer feeder.

All of the game and fish violations are misdemeanors.

Richardson is currently in the Fayette County Jail awaiting a bond hearing. The case against Richardson is still under investigation, police said.

Misdemeanors? I say give him the chair! Saw on the news lastnight where another one of these people shot a duck multiple times with a blowgun dart. Poor thing was swimming around with 4″ needles sticking out of him.

I would like to say pure stupidity, but sad to say in the same breath 98% of the time acts like this or the mentality of it can be seen on how someone was brought up at home.

Ohhh and doesn’t he look like a sweetheart…

Anyone who can do that to a docile, innocent animal will do the same to a human…no doubt in my mind.

This youngster is likely about 10 years overdue for a good spanking… and now that he is 17 needs to be taken out to the wood shed for a good ol’ fashioned a$$ whoop’n. Senseless act by a coward.

If Fred Bear were still alive and allowed to care for this delinquent he would have dropped him off with his bow on Kodiak Island, AK and told him to have a good time…and that he better make the first shot count.

At least make him drink some “magic” kool-aid so he doesn’t reproduce!

Pay attention to that face. He’ll be in the news again. Someday he’ll probably have a dozen bodies in his freezer and be wearing their skin as a coat. Freakin nut jobs.

Make him take a two blade Rage to the nuts. That way he can’t reproduce and he’ll know how the horse felt.

Normally…far be it from me to play devils advocate…but, granted thats a very dispicable act, but the responses towards a 17 year old child are pretty alarming. Guarantee you this kid was not alone, Im sure it was a peer pressure issue and Im sure we all did some stupid s*&t when we were that age too. He should definitely be taught a lesson, but “lets take some shots at him” and “give him the chair”??? Cmon guys

look at the several game violations and prior animal cruelty violation… already piled up at 17 yrs old. There is no mention or evidence in the article of “peer pressure” as you assume…so you cannot “garuantee” it.
I taught school for 30 years and was a deputy sheriff for 11 years…I never heard of anyone try to kill a pet horse by shooting her with a bow and several arrows while the poor thing stood helplessly locked in her stall.
Nor did “stupid sh$t” include toturing or killing pet animals when I was 17? Thats a little over the line from knocking over an outhouse or some underage drinking.

What consequence do you should he have for trying to kill this pet horse?
I say psychiatric evaluation, paying for all the medical bills and cleaning the sh$t out that horse’s stable for about a year.

That’s a shame. Some idiot here shot a dog in the throat with an arrow a couple weeks ago. Luckily it got help and lived.

I Agree with Tom all kids are going to get into some trouble because that is part of growing up. I think even if his peers did presure him doesnt cover the fact that HE shot the horse his friends did not make him draw the bow and shoot at the horse. I say throw the book at him..Chair yup. Its acts such as this that give hunters a bad name it doesnt matter who is doing it, its all fuel for Anti groups to say Hey Look What Hunters are doing…. As far as I can figure he can roit..

I guess I’ll have to express my apologies for sticking up for a child that a bunch of “adults” would like to see die. I must have forgotten how much better all of you are than everyone else. I know what I said, and you can twist it if you want, and make it sound like I said these are things that I did. Youre also welcome to come and find out how normal I am…

He’ll get off pretty easy just because of his age, but I wouldn’t call him a child. A 71 year old neighbor of mine was beaten with 2x4s by a 14 and 15 year old that wanted his beer. They came very close to killing him. I don’t think they should be treated as children ether. This “kid” has already racked up a good list charges, demonstrating that he has never developed any respect for the laws of society. Of course, killing him is not the way to go, but he should get a pretty stiff penalty, including not being allowed to hunt or own a weapon until he is 25 or so. Peer pressure is no excuse….especially after three shots.

IMHO chances are his buddies think he is pretty cool and that is probably all that matters to a seventeen year old like that, so good luck rehabbing that messed up guy. Should keep him locked up for as long as possible then hopefully when he gets out someone will teach him a lesson. That kind of crap makes my skin crawl.
