Anyone got any suggestions on how to remove the little bit of hide that is remaining around the horns on a skull plate? The horns have been sitting for a very long time and it doesn’t seem to want to come off easily with a pliers.

Carve it off with a fillet knife

Soak it for two days in water (rehydrate it) and then take it off with a knife.

I would but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t ever eat out of that pan again.

The latest taxidermy method for prepping a skull for a European mount is a high pressure power washer…

Soaking it is the way to go…. If it was fresh the pressure washer is the cats meow.
I have been using a pressure washer for the last three years and absolutly love it. Much easier than scraping. I still boil the skull. Just be sure to wear clothes you can throw away. It can get messy.

Oh… you don’t need a pan…. just take it in with you when you take a bath!

My dad lets it sit/soak in the creek by our place… it’s a great treat for the fish He’s working on my Mule deer now & his Elk.
