I know next to nothing about bows and capability, but do people really harvest deer by taking head shots?
No, real hunters don’t. This was a bad miss. Too much bone in the head area. Neck is controversial. But a good bow shot is really no different than a rifle shot.
I agree with Big G. Likely a crossbow arrow. Probably Tuckner.
This was more than likely a brisket shot that went wrong given the arrow angle.
That does look like a cross bow! It also looks like it’s just under the skin, hopefully she can knock that loose and heal up.

God forbid a picture like that falls into the hands of a bunny hugger. That’s a pretty terrible pic. To bad nobody got a chance to take her and put her out of her misery.

Who would take a brisket shot with a bow??? Not I.
Kooty, don’t let Tuck fool you, I don’t think the crossbow has left his house yet…..
I have taken that shot before. Had a clean pass through, right out the This was on a wounded animal though that needed to be put down ASAP. I would not normally take such a chance.

x2, also don’t think those pictures showed be posted here. This helps our image in NO way.
Check out this head shot. I would never attempt this or recommend it.

Small minded people will think what they want about us as hunters, picture or not. That picture in no way should reflect what anybody thinks about you, me or anyone else here. If it does, and I am sure it will, then they have a small mind and should be considered unarmed & dangerous themselves….

Agreed, but if the pictures aren’t here, nothing is reflected on us or this website.
Agreed, but I could care less what some small minded person thinks about me, you or anyone here… My theory on why we “should” post pictures such as this, is to discourage & educate people (alot of young hunters come in here) from taking this kind of shot on any animal. For every action, there is a result…..
One of the properties I lease is with two guys that are all head shots when it comes to shooting does with rifles. I can’t say they have ever wounded one. It’s either a dead deer or one that is still running around. I for one just can’t bring myself to do it. I take pictures of every deer I harvest. I wouldn’t like standing behind a set of floppy ears and a nose with a smile on my face. To each their own. Obviously, with a bow I feel it is never a shot that should be attempted.

If these photos…on this site…make even one person think twice about the risky nature of such a shot…then this is the perfect place for this photo to be…RR
Amen brother.

I disagree 100%. I teach Bowhunters, Hunters, and Trappers Safety, where everything you guys have mentioned is covered. I’ve also been fighting the fights, where this crap comes up, until you’ve been there, and seen it, I guess you won’t understand it.
That’s what’s great about the USA, we can all have our own opinions. So we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one, but I can guarantee you more bad will come of this, than good, with it’s posting here.

I respect your opinion and the teaching you do Les. Good conversation…RR
RR..you also, that is one of things I like about this site. Everybody keeps it civil, quite a few sites I just lurk on now, because everyone makes everything so personal.
