I think you may have a difficult time finding a “traditional” launch service anyplace closer than Mille Lacs.

I know most of the guides in the Twin Cites and I don;t know anyone with the ability to do a single boat group of that size.

have you thought of a shore fishing outing. find a spot along the river that you can line all the kids up and cast out, put the rods on a “Y” stick rod holder, have a campfire and roast hotdogs on sticks and catch some carp. it is not about what you catch, it is about how many. we used to go to the wayside rest just north of stillwater on the st.croix, real nice sand beach, some woods to run around in, and we caught white bass, carp, and walleye all with just a gob of nightcrawlers on a hook. shore fishing can be fun for kids because there is alot more to do than just fish……………..tom fellegy

    Thanks guys for the ideas.

The reason I like the charter is because they supply bait, tackle, equipment and the kids are confined to a boat. Also on the charter we can grill lunch.

I really like the shore fishing idea and I agree that its how many you catch not what you catch. I think the last two years we caught 5 or 6 fish a trip, midday bobber fishing in june isn’t always the best bite. I think I probably have enough equipment to supply for those who don’t have rods and reels and I think I could find a spot or two on the Croix that would give the kids some action. I bet I could even find a few IDO members to tie lines and cook hot dogs. I might try to contact St. Croix Bluffs Regional park and see what they have to say. They have a beach, bathrooms, and plenty of shore space.

Aparantly the Bluffs doesn’t allow fishing on the river ooops
Afton State park has some good options for picnic areas and allows fishing on all of their shoreline.

Tom do you remember where the place in Stillwater was?
