We are going to be moving our IDO Goose Hunt to Sat., Dec. 5th versus this Sat., Oct. 31st. We received several messages and emails to move the date due to deer hunters not being able to make it and other commitments that are going on over the Halloween weekend. If you still want to hunt on this Sat., Run-N-Gun Outfitters is open to taking you out. Please contact Brad Juaire ([email protected]) with any questions.

    Thanks

    IDO Management

We are proud to announce that Run-N-Gun Outfitters (an IDO Sponsor) located in Rochester, MN is teaming up with In-Depth Outdoors and iDoHunting again for a half day IDO FALL CANADA GOOSE HUNT!

WHEN: SATURDAY MORNING – DECEMBER 5TH

    LOCATION: ROCHESTER, MN

We are encouraging IDO members to attend this special goose hunt along with their friends and/or guests (you don’t have to be a registered member to attend). Run-N-Gun Outfitters has kindly discounted this IDO Goose Hunt to $75 per person! All you need to do to attend this special goose hunt is to reply to this message (or send an email to our Pro Staff Director – Brad Juaire at [email protected]) and we will sign you up!

We will meet at the Kwik Trip gas station (4760 Commercial Dr. SW – Rochester) at the corner of 48th St SW and Hwy 63 South at 6:30am (please don’t be late). Click here for directions.

Here’s what you can expect during your hunt with Run-N-Gun Outfitters:

    Fall Canada Goose Hunts

A typical hunt will generally go like this…First off, our guides will scout for geese the day prior to your hunt so we can put you in a field with the best opportunity for success. On the day of your hunt, we will meet you at our designated meeting location about 30 minutes prior to legal shooting hours. We will then take you to the hunting location for and get you set up. For a half day hunt, we will hunt you until the morning flight is over or until you are ready to leave.

For the ultimate concealment, you will be hunting from 2 man pits buried in the ground with a camouflaged hog panel covering the opening. The hog panel will allow you to see out of the pit so you can watch the birds work and commit. Everyone is to stay covered up until your guides call the shot. For safety reasons, you are not allowed to shoot until the guide signal. Each pit has a buzzer to let you know when it’s OK to come up and shoot. The guide has the ability to switch all the buzzers on or any combination of selected pits.

Depending on the conditions, we will vary the decoy spread from as few as 10 dozen full body decoys to a spread as large as 40 dozen full body decoys. Plus, to create movement in the spread, we may also use some shell, silhouette, or sock decoys.

Our fields with pits will hold a maximum of 12 hunters. This means that you could be hunting with another group of clients. If you want an entire field just for your group, you need to contact Run-N-Gun Outfitters for pricing.

Occasionally, we may ask if you wouldn’t mind hunting from a layout ground blind. This is mainly during the early season when the crops have not been harvested yet, but is also possible if the birds are hitting a field where we don’t have pits in the ground.

Things you need to bring with you include: hunting license and required waterfowl stamps, shotgun (with plug installed), ammunition, snacks/drinks, and warm clothing.

We recommend that you use a 12 gauge shotgun with 3.5 inch shells. Shot sizes should be either BBB, BB, or no smaller than 1 shot. We will provide you with a fully guided hunt (with a minimum of 2 guides), a pit heater (if requested) and an enjoyable hunting experience. You don’t have to help set up or pick up the decoys, but if you want to help, you are more than welcome.

    About Run-N-Gun Outfiiters

Run-N-Gun Outfitters was established in 2007 by Mike “Big Mike” Nelson (pictured below in the 2nd picture) along with his son Trevor Nelson (pictured below in the 3rd picture). Big Mike is a former owner of both Top Gun Guide Service and Folding Feathers Guide Service. He has been guiding goose hunters in the Rochester area since 1990. Mike and his team of guides have over 100 years of combined guiding experience.

    Spring Snow Goose Hunts

Our snow goose hunting season starts in NW Missouri approximately February 15th. We mainly hunt within minutes of the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Mound City, MO, but we also travel to where we can put our clients on the birds. We are usually in Missouri until about March 15th. Once the migration starts to move out of that area, we follow the birds into South Dakota. We will hunt in South Dakota until about April 15th.

We limit the number of hunters per field to 6 hunters, plus 1 guide. When you arrive to hunt, the field will already be set with 1500 to 1800 decoys. We use electronic callers and Final Approach S.U.B. layout blinds.

    I will be there!

This for sure will be a great IDO event and a chance to meet other IDO members!

“Big Mike” and Trevor run a class act guiding business and they (along with their guides) will work hard to put us on some geese!

So who else is going to make it?

Just got a report from Mike 4 guys hunting a picked bean field shot 8 birds by 8:30 this morning. The guys had one flock of six in and pounded all of them and then a pair that landed…. the hunting is just starting to get good the first of the migrators are starting to arrive. By the 31st we should really be grinding them up

Just got a report from Mike they shot a limit for five guys this morning. they were hunting a picked bean field. There are more and more geese arriving daily. The birds that were harvested today were very easily decoyed.

Better yet. Rob, you shoot the Nova and bring Stacy along to shoot the Berreta. Goose hunting isn’t just for the boys.

MM, I will run that by her this week. We are heading to SD for 5-6 days of Rifle Hunting in the Black Hills so not sure if she will be rested up by then.
