Here in WI. on Oct. 10 & 11th is a Youth Hunt, I was thinking of treating my mother and my little wifey to a fishing trip for a day, myself included. My mom is still able to get around ok and she has always loved fishing. I am trying to come up with a plan for an exciting day for these gals for having to put up with me not ever being home much do to my archery travels and hunting season.

I thought about checking to see if Ballwegs fishing service would want to take us out on Lake WI. I never had been there.

I haven’t fished much myself the last 6-8 years due to archery tourneys eating up 60 days a year beside my normal job so I haven’t been out on the water much

Does anyone have any great ideas to pass along or offer?

    Thanks

You couldn’t pick a better time of year for it. I’d talk to Joel for sure, but my guess is the saugers and eyes are on fire out there that time of year. Second best month to fish next to June IMO, and lots of bites are emerging. I’ll be up on Mille Lacs pulling cranks shallow (between bowhunts!) but any clear water lake with a good eye population should have a full moon milk run.

I’m sure some of the WI guys will chime in, but the river is really good that time of the year too.

    Hey Jeff,

I just took a look at my calendar and both Oct. 10th & 11th are available at this time. Fishing for crappies, walleyes & saugers should all be pretty good at that time of the year.
The prime fall bite seems to slide back a little later each year for walleyes & saugers but it kind of evens out as the crappies continue to bite well into October.
Here is a link I did last fall on what I believe was my first October walleye/sauger fishing trip of the fall.

Early October can be tough also some years as that can be the time frame when the lake will turn over. Everything about this year though has been running 2-3 weeks behind. Right now, our late August, early Sept. crappie/bluegill bite is just starting. (basically our early fall panfish bite is two to three weeks behind) Water temps are still running right at 73-74 degrees. If that keeps up, turn over won’t occur until late October.

I would love to take you and the family out for a day on Lake Wisconsin. Give me a call and ask any questions you like and I will do my best to answer them all.

    Sincerely,

    Joel “Boog” Ballweg

Jeff, I have been on the fishing side of IDO long enough to know that Joel is usually bringing in some tremendous sized fish. He stays on top of the bite out there and though I have never met Joel, being a fishing guy it is easy to see that Joel knows his stuff and I would not hesitate booking a trip with him.

Thanks for the positive input Rob, Brad & Jon!

We’ve got Jeff & the family lined up for Saturday, October 10th.

I’m definitely looking forward to all my trips out on Lake Wisconsin this fall. Especially after the way it went this spring. I’m sure mendotaeye is looking forward to it as well.
